https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/12/09/david-hammons-follows-his-own-rules in the summer of 2014, a year before the Whitney Museum of American Art reopened to the public in its new, downtown quarters on Gansevoort Street, David Hammons and several other artists were invited to walk through the unfinished galleries. The Whitney curators Scott Rothkopf and Donna de Salvo were planning a sequence of exhibitions that would inaugurate the fifth floor as an open, undivided space, and Hammons was an obvious but impossible candidate: an internationally renowned African-American artist who, during the past four decades, had risen to the summit of the art world by following his own rules, one of which was to turn down invitations from leading museums. Hammons was standing near the big fifth-floor windows that overlooked the Hudson when Adam Weinberg, the Whitney’s director, joined him.

Many years ago, N.K. Jemisin, a fantasy and science-fiction author had a dream that shook her. While she was sleeping, she found herself standing in a room with "...a chunk of rock shaped like a volcanic cone shaped smoking mountain. Standing before the rock was a woman filled with so much rage and anger. She was looking down at Jemisin with such anger. Jemisin did not know what caused her anger but she knew she had to move because the woman was about the throw the rock at her. After that, Jemisin awoke in a sweat and wrote down everything she had remembered. Jemisin started to work very hard to understand why she had such a dream.

Johnny Ashmore: A loving and caring individual with an intriguing, yet beautiful past. His story starts when he was born prematurely to his mother, weighing only 2 1/2 pounds, his small stature provided doctors with a concern to keep him under hospital care, which lasted for several months. During that time, Johnny was placed within a incubator, which caused him to lose much of his eyesight due to the high concentrations of oxygen levels present within the incubator. However, despite that neglectful setback, Johnny would go on to live a humbling and enjoyable life; being the town's most popular person, everyone in Greenville knew of him, and he knew them. Johnny spent much of time getting to know the folks in town, and had established a large presence there from his father and grandfather's job of being on the Greenville County Supervisors. And Johnny's premonence didn't stop just in Greenville, people from Spartanburg to Anderson knew about him, as well as his personality and job professions. Johnny bounced between various jobs, from working at "Baby" Bi-Lo to 8 O'Clock; but no matter where he went, or what house he lived, or street he walked, Johnny always treated people with care and respect, which is the reason why so many people know him, and why he's so well liked.

At the time, it would not have been rash to assume that Get Some, Snot’s riotous 1997 debut album, had signalled the arrival of nu metal’s next big thing. Bristling with the bare-knuckled pugnacity of frontman Lynn Strait, its enthralling blend of funk, nu metal and hardcore breathed renewed vitality into the era’s generic alt- rock stagnancy. A vast and auspicious career opened wide before them, but 20 years later, Get Some stands as both a debut and a swansong, their meteoric ascent cut tragically short with Lynn’s death in 1998 along a nasty stretch of Southern California highway.

These days we take it for granted that a new album can reach millions of people instantly thanks to Spotify, YouTube and social media, but in the mid-90s, the Internet remained a remote and exotic vista for many fans. Word-of-mouth was a slow-burning process sparked by mainstream radio exposure, relentless touring and 🤬-tons of tape-trading among fans.
