Communication is key to keeping parents engaged in their children's academics, and it also keeps them involved in major events or things taking place in school. It's also important to ask the parents for their preferred method of communication.

This event is a wonderful opportunity for parents to meet their child's teacher. During this time, they can learn about classroom expectations, meet other parents, and get a glimpse of the curriculum for the year.

FUN WAYS TO INVOLVE STUDENTS:

o Invitations- Have the students create their invitations to personally give to their parents

o Phone call home

o Video invite- Have the students create a fun video to promote their back-to-school night

o Postcard invitations- Send to every parent, ask for an RSVP

Conducting Surveys is a great way to get parents involved. Surveys give parents the ability to voice their thoughts and concerns, which can help them feel more involved with the school.

EXAMPLES OF SURVEYS

o Suggestions box- This could be in many areas of the school (Office/Library/School Website)

o Tell us about yourself- Back to school night would be the time to hand this out. Parents can let the teacher know what they are interested in and find out ways they can contribute to the school

o Corkboard of “You said-we did”- Suggestion slips that were filled out and completed by the school can be posted in shared areas. This shows parents that their voice matters, and that the school is doing what it can to make changes.
