introduction to IOT ( by Mohammad Ahsan Saleem)

The internet of things, or IoT, is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.

A thing in the internet of things can be a person with a heart monitor implant, a farm animal with a biochip transponder, an automobile that has built-in sensors to alert the driver when tire pressure is low or any other natural or man-made object that can be assigned an IP address and is able to transfer data over a network.

(internetofthingsagenda,2020)

An IoT ecosystem consists of web-enabled smart devices that use embedded processors, sensors and communication hardware to collect, send and act on data they acquire from their environments. IoT devices share the sensor data they collect by connecting to an IoT gateway or other edge device where data is either sent to the cloud to be analyzed or analyzed locally. Sometimes, these devices communicate with other related devices and act on the information they get from one another. The devices do most of the work without human intervention, although people can interact with the devices -- for instance, to set them up, give them instructions or access the data.

(internetsociety,2020)

The connectivity, networking and communication protocols used with these web-enabled devices largely depend on the specific IoT applications deployed.

The new rule for the future is going to be, "Anything that can be connected, will be connected." But why on earth would you want so many connected devices talking to each other? There are many examples for what this might look like or what the potential value might be.

The IoT also opens up companies all over the world to more security threats. Then we have the issue of privacy and data sharing. This is a hot-button topic even today, so one can only imagine how the conversation and concerns will escalate when we are talking about many billions of devices being connected. Another issue that many companies specifically are going to be faced with is around the massive amounts of data that all of these devices are going to produce. Companies need to figure out a way to store, track, analyze and make sense of the vast amounts of data that will be generated.

(Forbes,2020)

Industry 4.0

Food, clothing and houses were initially manufactured by hand or with the help of animals which were used at the farm. Near the start of 18th century manufacturing moved towards mass production and machinery was implemented and used. This was the start of the first industrial revolution. This generation or Industry 1.0 employed the use of steam and water operated machines to drive the machinery. Businesses started employing more workers and the production capacity of a business increased. Thus, the ability to meet the demands of the customer was improved. Moving on, then came about the Second industrial revolution or Industry 2.0, this employed the use of electricity to improve the production capacity of businesses and quality of production. One of the first implementations of the electricity-based production line was by the Ford Motor Company. The next revolution was due to advancement in the field of electronics and programmable assemblies. This was referred to as Industry 3.0 this involved the use of programmable logic controllers (PLC) in robots to automate a task that was to be done repeatedly. This enabled mass production unlike ever witnessed before in the previous industries.

Applications of IOT (By Ali Akbar)

Here are some applications of IOT

1. Now that this is a sophisticated traffic network, traffic dynamics are easily learned and predicted with the help of machine learning. The intelligent device will then evaluate the situation, forecast its effect and relay information to other towns which link through their own smart systems to the same motorway.

2. The cost of buying a home is the biggest expense in the life of the householder. Smart Home devices should save money, time and resources. For sophisticated homes such as Nest, Ecobee, Ring and August, a handful of which are going to turn into household brands and intend to offer an experience never before seen. Smart Home is the groundbreaking ladder of residential growth, and intelligent homes are expected to be as popular as smartphones.

3. In markets worldwide, wearables have become exponential in popularity. Organizations such as Google, Samsung, have made major investment in the design of these devices. The apps cover the general criteria for exercise, wellness and entertainment. The internet criteria for wearable devices needs high energy consumption or incredibly low power and limited scale.

4. The Internet of Things also improves control, accuracy and usability in current devices. IoT is not only about hardware but about building structures.

Relevant real-world evidence is missing in the tools of modern scientific science. It uses mainly remaining evidence, managed environments, and medical examination volunteers. By observing, presenting real-time field data and evaluating IoT is opened up to a sea of valuable data.

The Internet of Things also improves control, accuracy and usability in current devices.

1. Communication: IoT facilitates connectivity between computers, known as machine-to-machine (M2 M), as well.

2. Information: More knowledge helps to take smarter decisions. It is clear.

3. Automation and Control: Thanks to the automated and central relation of physical objects with wireless networks, automation and management of operations are comprehensive.

4. Saves Money: IoT saves capital is the biggest advantage. The Internet of Things can be used very commonly because the expense of the marking and tracking devices is smaller than the amount of money saved. IoT is incredibly helpful for people in their day-to-day activities by allowing machines connect efficiently, reducing electricity and cost savings.

(Things (IoT), 2020)

1. Compatibility: The reliability of the marking and tracking systems actually does not exist in the international standard. I assume that this is the hardest drawback to tackle.

2. Privacy/Security: The chance of compromising secrecy increases with all such IoT data transmitted. How well is the data processed and distributed, for example? Do you want to know what your habits and what your financial condition are, your neighbors?

3. Technology Takes Control of Life: Our lives are more and more dominated by and dependent on technology. In any little thing, the millennial generation still relies on technology.

4. Complexity: There are more risks of loss, as in a complicated system. Failures could escalate with the Internet of Things.
(Things (IoT), 2020)
