She was raised in a Muslim family in Mingora, Pakistan. Malala's parents are both Pakistani education activists which Malala started to undertake at only 11 years old. She attended Khushal Girls High school which her Father, Ziauddin Yousafzai established and administrated.
Malala's life changed on the 9th of October 2012, when she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman. She was targeted as a result of her speaking up for the right of women being educated. Many men and women may not have realised that this was a problem suppressing the potential of receiving the education they deserved. Malala’s activism and passion has encouraged an opened-minded view by letting other women know that there is hope for change. The more people are involved with this movement, the more it becomes known that there is a longing for equality in women’s education. Malala is a resilient leader that needed to be there for change, so people have someone speaking for them.

She sacrificed her safety for the benefits of others. Malala, at the age of 16, stood against the Taliban more than the Pakistan Government have. This evidences how much of a courageous and powerful individual Malala is. Not only has she embodied Pakistan to have a positive future, but she has inspired many to stand with her to fight against people in society who don't believe in equal education rights.

If Malala would have stopped, the whole agenda would have come to a halt. Her alone getting up in front of a crowd in fear of being shot again would have shown the people how passionate she is about her country’s education for women, this alone would have given strength and something to believe in and unite women’s equal opportunities. Malala went beside a culture which encourages females to stay out of the limelight, this then shaped conspiracy theories against Malala and her actions. When Malala was 14, she spoke out for the rights of girls in Pakistan to have an education. She was shot by the Taliban for this very reason. The fact that she had the courage to speak out again, not for herself, but for the many individuals who cannot is putting her own life in danger again. "I speak not for myself, but for those without a voice can be heard". Malala has shown me that we are in control of what we do in life and that fear is just a state of mind. Women are the inferior sex in Muslim culture, they are not valued as much as men are. Females are brought up to do things differently to men. The fact that this is not required of men validates the expectation of women to be submissive.
