By taking a sample of students and exposing them to research techniques over different lengths of time, and by measuring results from different types of environments, a theoretical ideal amount of time could be found in which students need to be exposed to lessons in information literacy. To supplement my work as a librarian, I consider myself an avid reader and aspiring writer as well. As a librarian with a focus on reference services, young adult and teen services, and information literacy, it is my mission to provide people of all ages with the information they seek and training them to be critical of that information given in order to keep an open, educated mind.

As young adults begin their professional careers by doing research in school, it is important to offer them one-on-one help. As the internet now offers information so freely, it is critical that they understand the information and resources they find, and what this could mean to them as students and writers when it comes to research and plagiarism. By making connections with these students and their education professionally, I not only ensure that they know what they are doing, but that they will know how to perform these tasks in the future, thereby furthering their own skills.

It is important that a Young Adult and Teen Librarian offers programs that will not only stimulate the right brain, but the left as well. They are at a very impressionable time in their adolescence, and offering programs that are not only fun, but educational, gives them the chance to think critically and openly about certain topics they may have not yet explored. These programs will keep the students not just engaged in the library and the world of information, but with their own fascination with learning through different processes of their own.

As a Reference and Instruction Librarian, it is not just important to help patrons find and understand information, but also to show them that information can be found and examined with an academic and critical eye in a clear step towards information literacy. As teens transition into higher education, there are bigger factors having to do with plagiarism and citation that come into play with their research. Research for them no longer ends with inquiries on Google or Wikpedia. If they haven't been exposed to them before then, my mission then becomes introducing students, young and old, to library resources and databases, as well as how to navigate them to find not just the resources they seek, but the correct ones.

As the Head of Circulation Services, my goal is to be the liaison between the patron and the library itself. The patron comes to the library expecting to be connected to the information that they seek. My roll is not only to be that connection, but to manage every element in between. This means managing and purchasing for the collections on the shelves and in the cloud, reaching out to the community to advertise what is available within the library, and most importantly, keeping the patron's information and records private.

It is key for me to keep up on information and programs as the fields of reference service, young adult services, and circulation develop in the future. By attending conferences and reading/writing articles that are critical to these services, I will be able to better serve my library community. And by communicating with my library community, not only will know what my patrons are looking for in these services, but I will be up to date as to what is available for them in the latest trends of library science.
