Reading Brain

I found the bit about the reading brain to be interesting. As a PE teacher, I didn't realize different parts of the brain are responsible for different parts of reading. It gave me a new understanding of those kiddo's with brain trauma.

Aren't our brains amazing? It's wonder we can even talk, let alone read and write! Really breaking down what has to happen to be able to speak, read and write really shows how difficult it really is.

I like having the list of spelling errors on page 80. When teaching younger students, I would encourage mouth awareness for formation of sounds. It was a reminder to do continue with older students.

Those who learn to spell easily usually have well-developed phoneme awareness, and the poorest spellers usually have phonological processing weakness.

Phonological retrieval is what a lot of our students struggle with . Also there was a new term called phonological sensitivity. It was interesting. Also finally found out what a fricative was.
