My overall thoughts on the rankings is that I was surprised to see Eisenhower on the top 5 list. I was expecting Thomas Jefferson or Teddy Roosevelt. Similar to the top 5, on the bottom 5 I was expecting to see Andrew Johnson or Herbert Hoover. Overall I have no problems with the list.

George Washington:

Washington had to grow up very quickly, his father died when he was 11 and as a result Washington became the man of the house and plantation. He was mostly self educated. Washington had a long ,military career with many successes and failures, however he rose to prominence as commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

Washington was elected as first president of the United States. He set many standards and traditions for the office of the president. For example he establish the presidential cabinet, basically assistants to the president. Washington was known for discussing any decisions with his cabinet. What was unique about Washington was he surrounded himself with political rivals with many different points of view. Lastly, Washington was a large slave owner throughout his life and even during his time in the White House he used slave labor as workers. Washington is best know for his time as a military leader and the "Father of the United States" many practices he did while in office have become the tradition of the president.

James Buchanan:

He was the president before Abe Lincoln. He is most known for his handling of the growing problem of slavery in the new territories as the US expanded west. He was the only president to never be married. He served in various levels of our government before becoming president. Some major events of his presidency included the Dred Scott decision in which the Supreme Court ruled that African Americans did not have legal citizenship, therefore slavery could extend into free territory. Also, the courts ruled that Congress could not decide the fate of slavery in new territories. He denied the southern states request to secede from the Union, but agreed that he could not legally prevent them from doing so. Buchanan was president when the Civil War broke out at Fort Sumter. His legacy is one of confusion and somewhat regret, he died shortly after his presidency.

My overall thoughts on the rankings are that i was surprised that Ronald Reagan was regarded as one of the best presidents considering how much flak he gets today for his ideology. I wasnt expecting Jimmy Carter to be on the list of the worst presidents, most of what I know about him is his activism outside of office.

Abraham Lincoln: As a president Abraham Lincoln was constantly under pressure, from his own party and the growing threat of civil war and southern secession. While the civil war wasn't originally about slavery Lincoln was eventually convinced to support the movement. His role in American history was a pivotal one and he successfully was able to keep the union together in the American Civil War.

James A. Garfield was a major general in the American civil war before getting elected to the Ohio Senate In 1859. He quickly gained popularity but only gained the popular vote by 10,000. He only served for 6 months before being assassinated by a man who was upset for his request being denied for a European consulship. As president he consolidated power for himself and his inner circle, he did this by extending influence over the New York Customs house. -Nicholas H

My overall thoughts on the president ranking is that I was surprised to see Jimmy Carter on the worst presidents list. I've heard good things about Jimmy Carter but I guess he was a bad president. I agree with the best president list I think those five president deserve to be on the list.

George Washington: During Washington's presidency, Washington established precedents which guided his successors even creating the president's cabinet. Washington was also a veteran before becoming president fighting in the infamous revolutionary war which we won thanks to Mr.Washington.

Herbert Hoover: Hoover was a son of a black smith. People say that Hoover had a great reputation as a engineer, administrator, and humanitarian. Hoover declared war on France one week before celebrating his 40th birthday in London, Germany.

I think this Ranking is pretty fair and understandable I wish they would've added more reasons why they were the "worst of best" presidents.

JFK's presidency began on January 20, 1961, and lasted till November 22, 1963. Unfortunately, his term only lasted 1000 days before he was assassinated in Dallas Texas. He was the youngest president to be elected and sadly was the youngest to pass away. John F. Kennedy graduated from Harvard and then joined the Navy where he bravely pushed his team in the war. During his term, his priority was to get America moving again. He also wanted America to resume its main goal to preserve human rights. He's remembered for his charm, bravery, and intelligence.

Grover Cleveland was the first democratic president to serve after the Civil War. He was viewed as an honest civil servant, but the rumors about him don't uphold this claim. He was said to have assaulted and impregnated Maria Halpin. He did not deny this so he forcefully institutionalized her so he could take custody of the child. During his presidency, he pursued a policy that would give special favors to any economic group. He also worked a lot abut railroads and made them return 81,000,000 acres.

My thoughts on the rankings is that I did not expect to see Woodrow Wilson on the top 5 worst list. I thought there was gonna be more of the older presidents like John Adams, or James Madison, because of how the US was at that time. However I don't think anything was wrong with the list.

Barack Obama

Obama grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii with his grandparents after his parents got a divorce. he would go to a private prep school on a scholarship. After two years he transferred to Colombia University to study Political science. He worked on the south side of Chicago to improve housing conditions and create job training programs. He was then elected Senate for Illinois in 1996, and in 2008 won the Democratic Nomination against Hilary Clinton and soon after became president after going 365 to 173 against John McCain. As a starting president he had to manage wars in Iraq, and the 2008 financial crisis. He would also sign bills to reform the nations legislation, economic stimulus, and health care. On his last year of his presidency he would say “Our union is not yet perfect, but we are getting closer,” after the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery.

Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter was born in Georgia, and grew up peanut farming. there was a lot of talk of politics and the Baptist faith which were his upbringing. he graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He was elected as a senator for 8 years then became a governor of Georgia. when he ran for president he was mostly unknown but people were open to a fresh choice. During his presidency he focused on the economy. He decreased budget deficit. However inflation rates were at the highest they have ever been. Later on in his presidency he was one of three presidents to get a Nobel Peace Prize. after his presidency he would built homes through Habitat For Humanity and passed away on December 29th 2024.

I find the presidential ranking interesting and reasonable. I particularly agree with the placement of Ronald Reagan. I don't really disagree with this ranking or have any overall thoughts.

Ronald Reagan:

Ronald Reagan, born on February 6, 1911, in Illinois, began his career as a Hollywood actor before entering politics. He served as the 40th President of the United States from 1981 to 1989, where he became known for his charismatic leadership and conservative policies. Reagan's presidency is often remembered for his economic policies known as Reaganomics, which emphasized tax cuts, deregulation, and a focus on free market principles aimed at stimulating economic growth. However, his administration also faced criticism for increasing the national debt and for the handling of social issues, such as the AIDS crisis. Reagan's foreign policy achievements, particularly in ending the Cold War through diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union, stand out as a significant aspect of his legacy. While his supporters praise his ability to restore American optimism and strengthen the military, detractors point to the social inequalities that grew during his tenure. Overall, Reagan's life and presidency reflect a complex interplay of leadership, economic strategy, and social challenges that continue to influence American politics today.

Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States, served from 1853 to 1857. Born in 1804 in New Hampshire, he rose through the ranks of politics, becoming a lawyer and a member of the Democratic Party. His presidency is often remembered for its controversial policies, particularly the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which allowed new territories to decide on the legality of slavery, further intensifying sectional tensions. While Pierce aimed to maintain peace between the North and South, his decisions alienated many in both regions. His pros included a commitment to westward expansion and attempts to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act, which appealed to Southern Democrats. However, his cons included a failure to effectively address the growing divide over slavery, leading to increased violence in Kansas and contributing to the eventual outbreak of the Civil War. Ultimately, Pierce is best known for his inability to unify the nation during a critical period, leaving a legacy marked by political strife and division.

My overall thoughts on the ranking is that it is pretty accurate because many of these presidents did many great things and for the top 5 worst I believe that it was accurately rated as well because these president had the least impact on the United States.

George Washington:

Washington as a little boy spent most of his childhood at Ferry Farm on the Rappahannock River. All the homes and plantations where Washington lived were maintained by enslaved labor. When George was 11 his father died and became a slave owner the result of this is getting no formal education so he was self educated. Washington had a long career in the armed forces where he had some losses but eventually came out victorious. After the war he was unanimously elected to be president and on April 16, 1789 George Washington left his home at Mount Vernon to travel to New York City to be inaugurated as the first president of the United States. On December 14, 1799 Washington tragically passed from a throat infection. A pro from his presidency was that he created the presidential cabinet which was the president's assistants. A con was that Washington was a slave owner. George Washington was known for being the first President of the United States and leading the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War.

Jimmy Carter:

Jimmy Carter was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. Peanut farming, talk of politics, and the Baptist faith were mainstays of his upbringing. Jimmy graduated from a Naval academy in 1964 and married Rosalynn Smith. He would go on to have 3 children with his wife. in 1962 he was elected a state senator and eight years later he was elected governor of Georgia. On January 20, 1997 he was elected president. He would go on to reorient U.S. foreign policy towards an emphasis on human rights and establishing diplomatic relations with China. A con from his presidency was he struggled to deal with inflation. Jimmy Carter was known for being an American politician that promoted and expanded human rights.
