Like when the Woman was trying to revive her dead son on Page 115 the reader could probably tell that she was going to die or something bad would happen to her since the husband had a bad feeling and there had already been a bad thing that happened.
The author uses foreshadowing to provoke the character to make a decision by creating the storyline to the point where they can't make another decision like when the son died on page 112 The woman was so desperate she forced her husband to use the second wish to save their son.
