The author of "The Monkey's Paw" uses forshadowing throughout the story. When Morris talks about the stories of the monkey's paw, the reader will question what would happen if the White's were to use it. We also see foreshadowing when Mr. White begs Mrs. White to not open the door because he doesn't want "it" coming in when refering to his son. This creates supense and leads to Mrs. White making a quick desicion of opening the door

Mr.White is warned by Sargent Major Morris that he should be careful. Also, when their son died and they were given three hundred pounds as a sorry for their lost, it kind of shows and creates a bit of suspense. When they wished for their son to come back to life, the candle went out and Mr.Whites face changes to a more scared expression, it shows something bad can happen.

The author of "The Monkey's Paw" uses foreshadowing to create suspense in the story making the reader interested in the story and also to make the reader infer what is going to happen next based of what happened in the story so far. For example, when Herbert died the compensation amount for his death was 300 pounds (what they wished for). So we can infer that the next wish would come true but in a horrible way.

The author uses foreshadowing to propel the story forward by using little hints so the reader can infer what will happen and it keeps the reader hooked because then they can see if their predictions were correct. Then if they were correct they can keep infering. Like when the Woman was trying to revive her dead son on Page 115 the reader could probably tell that she was going to die or something bad would happen to her since the husband had a bad feeling and there had already been a bad thing that happened.
The author uses foreshadowing to provoke the character to make a decision by creating the storyline to the point where they can't make another decision like when the son died on page 112 The woman was so desperate she forced her husband to use the second wish to save their son. The Author uses foreshadowing to create suspense for the reader by foreshadowing and giving not complete hints which gives the reading an idea but also builds suspense since they can get eager to know what happens like when they wished for 200 pounds on page 108 the author foreshadowed that something creepy would happen for them to get 200 pounds until it did on page 112, which no one expected them to get the 200 pounds the way they did but the readers still had the hints.
