Klebsiella can cause a variety of infections
Many of which are hospital acquired, such as pneumonia, meningitis and urinary tract infections.

2. There are multiple antibiotic resistant strains of Klebsiella pneumonia
The multi drug resistant CRE (which stands for Carbapenem Resistant Enterobacteriaceae) Klebsiella Pneumonia is a relatively new superbug. Due to limited antibiotic treatment diseases caused by this organism can be severe. You can read more about the result of antibiotic resistance here.

3. Klebsiella can be found everywhere
Water, soil, humans, animals, insects and plants are all environments where this organism may naturally occur.

4. The bacteria can spread via person to person contact
For this reason it is important to implement thorough hygiene practices, particularly if you are staying at or visiting a hospital. It is a good idea to wash your hands thoroughly and often when in any area of critical hygiene concern.

5. Yet can also be transmitted via contaminated surfaces
