Thinking about all the sources we've read as part of the same conversations, I think the problem they are addressing is the way we perceive. The sources mostly identify an issue or bad idea that as a society we collectively have about writing, and most of the time they identify these issues as being a result of the way writing is taught. The contribution that the writers are trying to make is to inform their audience - usually educators, scholars, and students - about an issue they identify as important in modern day writing. From this they also then strive to present a relevant solution to these problems, usually related to altering the way we teach or approach writing.

All the resources we read in class aim to improve the way we are taught writing. They address wrong methods and suggest better ones. They explain how some methods fail to make us improve as writers and propose ideas that should be implemented by educator or students/writers themselves. All these authors are trying to make the world of writing a better place. Since most of them work in this field, they are contributing to it by writing about what they view as solutions. They write in ways that help those who are struggling, and they point out what is essential in writing.

Most of the articles refute common misconceptions about writing, and explain how writing should be taught or changed for the better. The articles address the flaws in the way writing is taught, and provide ways that writing should be taught instead. I found that all of the writers were addressing educators, and were calling for a change in a certain aspect of writing. The contributions that the writers are trying to make is to inform educators of things that can be improved on in writing. Each of the authors argue that writing and conceptions of writing can be changed for the better, and that's what they are trying to inform their audience.

The authors of these sources, usually professors in literature, address the flaws in how students are learning literacy and further expand on how some styles of teaching and writing assignment don’t work on expanding the literacy knowledge of students. After that, the author would then address the target audience, usually educators who want to help their students, on teaching methods and writing assignments that they can implement into their own curriculum to help students succeed in literacy.

Most of the sources have contradicting names that display what the false belief or myth is, and then spend the time in the essay explaining and debunking. The writers are all adding their own input and what they believe are the worst writing myths that are out there. Each writer has had their own experiences and they write about which myth or false idea has impacted them the most. Then they write as it is the most important to them and address the situation, and debunking in order to protect others from those myths and ideas.

All the sources we have read in this course address a similar problem and need. Literacy shall be taught in different ways and in new ways. Other sources have a need that addresses that everyone can be a writer and the problem of misbeliefs such as what a writer shall look like and how one shall write. All these sources address that there is so much to literacy whether it’s diversity, new ways of teaching such as media and defeating misbeliefs that get created in the writing industry or are brought upon future writers by society. The contributions these writers try to make are to bring inspiration to future writers with different backgrounds to not give up on challenges and struggles in literacy. As well as bring awareness to the different teachings methods that teachers have done to help students succeed in writing and reading. I realized that most of these sources touch upon literacy being more than just reading and writing since they have experience with learning new things and facing struggles that cause frustration.

Authors use different bad habits or misconceptions in writing to prove that there is more to writing than just words on a paper. All of the articles also agree that communication and socializing is an important part of writing, as is coming up with an original thought. The authors of these articles are trying to help everyday writers improve their work and correct common writing errors that appear in everyone's work. I noticed all of these readings are based around literature and how to improve your literacy usage which will in turn imrpove your writing.

I've noticed some recurring themes with the sources we've read. Among these are the call for a better system to teach writing to students, the exposure of common myths that students have about writers in general, and ways that the writing community can progress forward. By drawing attention to these issues, the authors of these articles, book chapters, etc are trying to come up with innovative solutions or ways to help the general population grasp a deeper understanding of writing and root out the often times "scary" myths that most people believe about writing.

From all the sources we read it can be seen how they converse to demonstrate the different problems or improvements that need to be made when both teaching and learning writing. While half of the readings refute the assumptions made by society about writing techniques and how they should be implemented the other half presents new ideas and techniques that would help improve a writers writing. A majority of the readings reflect the idea that writing is a social activity or that writing is diverse therefore there is no correct or incorrect way of writing. Throughout all the sources the intended audience is either students or educators, in other words those with similar scholarly backgrounds who the authors of these sources are trying to make contributions to by providing advice as to how one can enhance their writing skills, reassuring readers of how past and present difficulties or experiences are normal and all apart of the writing process including linguistic differences which should be used to a writers advantage, and lastly clarifying misconceptions often made about writing.

The sources we have read have all so far connected to different methods of reading & writing, literacy/illiteracies and common assumptions about reading and writing amongst college students. One of the problems the sources are addressing is the assumption that in order to be a good writer, you have to follow expectations and build yourself up to be perfect. In this case, the writers contribute by arguing that all writers are different and we all have different methods and(or) writing styles. They also include some of our own imperfections such as having to move from highschool to college and how different the expectations may be.

The problems that the sources are addressing are bad common writing habits that any writer makes without thinking twice. This is especially apparent in the "Bad Ideas About Writing" source, where each article is given a name that refers to a bad writing habit. The writers try to present their points, analyzing and explaining why a certain writing habit may be undesired. They also try to put out a strong enough argument in their writing so that it can convince the audience that the writer's point of view about that bad habit is indeed true. This has the potential to sway one's opinions about writing habits, which I would say is the contribution the writers are trying to make, to make the readers of their work potentially better writers.

Other sources address how writing should allows for students to think and that professors should not be giving students writing prompts that make them write about what they already know.

According to me, the sources utilized in class were quite efficient and masses of knowledge was acquired from them. When analyzing the different sources along with their aims and intentions, it is portrayed that they give out the common misconceptions and solutions to them. The sources provided address the false myths about writing that students, and educators utilize, thinking it’s an efficient way of writing. In reality, these sources provide strategic methods of catching the reader’s attention, as well as strategic tactics of making it easy for students to write. These sources include discussions regarding diversity, motivation coming from a teacher’s side, and the misconception of following standard writing guidelines, which will most likely lead to a writing piece with the absence of voice and passion. The contributions brought by these writers make it a whole lot easier for those that are taking literature/writing courses, encountering difficulties, as well as educators. After reading these sources, a lot was embedded by which writing is more than following a professor’s guidelines, but is a way of truly expressing yourself. It has also been realized that students, and teachers may experience the same difficulties and issues when writing.

(195 words)
