shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhi see you hey bradley Hi Jake willy Choking in sport

Choking is when an individual is placed under high amounts of pressure. This results in them panicking and not knowing what to do within a certain situation.(2) backs up our point by saying, "choking has a wider meaning to me. Choking happens when you get in your own way mentally or your mind prevents you from performing at your best." Choking happens when you are in control of your performance or the competition and you lose because of a change in your mental state, which learns to a mental meltdown of sorts. This is because if the player has so much expected of them within a game then the amount of pressure will cause them 'choke'. This can occur within a certain situation in a game, this can be in a situation such as a penalty in the last penalty of the shoot out. This has happened with Andriy shevchenko, in the AC Milan vs Liverpool game shevchenko had the last penalty to keep them in the shoot out. However under the pressure shevchenko choked and missed the penalty. this can be linked to the arousal levels, this is because he was not performing at his optimal arousal levels , as a result of this his arousal levels could have been too high or too low causing him to under perform.

- Link to theories and explain why okay thanks, no worries darling

(1) http://www.picz.ge/scripts/view.py?uid=9354d7a76eec
(2)http://www.performanceanxietysports.com/what-is-choking-in-sports/

-
- Arousal can have a positive affect on sports performer, this is when there is a moderate level of arousal. This will therefore lead to the athlete performing at their highest level of the performance ability. This is because they will not be overthinking any decision and will have a clear mind when making a option to do something. A prime example of this is Cristiano Ronaldo when he steps up to take a penalty he will be confident as he score most of the penalties that he takes
-

Changes in attentional focus

- External and internal factors can lead to lapses in concentration and poor performance
- External factors: parents, coaches or spectators which leads to increase of anxiety
- Internal factors: Focus attention inwards, overthinking
- Pressure for performance. This is where you become very under pressure to consistently perform. This can lead to stress and anxiety and stop you from performing well. This means that you maybe stuck in a repetitive cycle, trying to play well as an athlete and not being able to. This therefore causing even more anxiety, stress and depression.
-Athletes do not lose physical ability overnight. The reason for a change in performance is more likely to be related to fluctuations in cognitive processes, one of which being attention. Whether it be in the last ten minutes of play, the closing holes of a major tournament or the last mile of a marathon, an athlete needs to focus their attention on the correct things. Focusing on the wrong stimulus can lead to lapses in concentration. An athlete’s focus of attention can vary from internal to external which, according to Wulf (2007) can have an impact on learning and performance of new skills.

http://believeperform.com/performance/attention-in-sport/

Increased anxiety levels

Not enough or too much arousal will increase the anxiety levels within an individual. This is because being too aroused can cause high amounts of anxiety. This would lead to the athlete’s physical and mental attributes being affected.

- An increase in anxiety levels can depend on the situation, environment, score line or the opposition you’re playing against

- Situations outside of the sporting environment can cause anxiety, leading to a decrease in their sporting performance

- A negative example of how an increase in anxiety levels would affect an athlete would be Tiger Woods. This is because an incident outside of his athletic career affected his arousal levels.

- However, on the other hand a positive example of this would be Ryan Giggs. This is because he takes yoga before and after a game to help control and maintain his anxiety levels. This means that by doing yoga he is also able to control his Arousal levels. This means that he can perform to his peak level as his arousal level will be at what it should be.
