  • June 1, 1954: The Saigon Military Mission was launched to start  physiological warfare and paramilitary activities in South Vietnam. This was started by US Air Force Col. Edward Lansdale. This is when the war started. Significance: this trained the Vietnamese soldiers so that they fought better which helped a little in the war.  
  • November 2, 1963: Ngo Dinh Diem was assassinated by some of his generals, with the help of US officials. He was abusing his buddhist population so  the US withdrew from the patronage with him. At this point thousands of US soldiers were in Vietnam and 200 were killed.
  • March 1, 1966: PROVN a study was released about what the US was doing is counterproductive and it should be focusing on the safety and sustainability of Vietnam.  2,700 US soldiers have been killed. Significance: this made the US change there ways in terms of how much troops they send in and how they train the troops.
  • January 30, 1968:  North Vietnamese forces attacked 5 major cities but they played right into American and South Vietnamese strengths which led them to experience heavy casualties. Over 20,000 US soldiers have been killed. Significance: this put a big dent in the military of north Vietnam, this also changed their way of planning.
  • March 16, 1968: 500 unarmed villagers were killed by the US troops. they started covering up this masquerade. This led to only one American man  being found guilty in any way related to this event and was put in house arrest for a few years.

It also showed how the communist and democracy nations can't come to an agreement on the same terms. This also increased more tension. This affects the world today because if all those Americans didn't die then there would have been a larger economy than there is today. There were also devastating psychological conditions that we found because of the loss of loved ones.
