1. It was necessary to keep Harold's father's profession a secret from him because his father was a boxer and he was a scholarly child so his parents did not want him to follow in his father's footsteps.
2. Mr. Bramble was a 31-year old famous boxer known as "Young Porky". He was Harold's father. He always put his son before him.
3.Harold frowned because he felt that his mother was treating him like a baby when she said "Yes, mother will hear you precious".
4.Major Percy Stokes was an annoying and talkative man. He always criticized others and was very persuasive.
5. Harold’s parents were extremely proud of his intelligence. They knew that he was a prodigy and were highly concerned that Bill’s profession should be hidden from him. They regarded him as a person showing a bit too much class for them. But they failed to see the reality of their son’s interests. This is evident from the reaction of Harold when he comes to know the reality. He says that it was a rotten thing to hide everything from him. He tells them that he had a bet with his friend, Dicky Saunders, that Jimmy Murphy would not last ten rounds. Harold also tells Jerry that he’s been interested in all these things since he was a kid.Harold himself names the boxers one after the other, which amazingly shows his field of interest which his parents were completely unaware of.
6. In the beginning of the story we see that Harold was considered to be a prodigal child but by the end of the story we find out that he is a normal child like any other child of his age.

1.Harold was a scholarly child and was a real prodigy when it came to intellectual tasks. He was the polar opposite of his father , Mr.Bramble , who was a professional boxer . He was affectionately known as "Young Porky" by many Londoners .Harold's parents thought that their child prodigy ( Harold ) would not be able to stomach the fact that his father was a "man of wrath" and would be very ashamed from learning so.Thus they fed him the whole fiction about how Harold's father was a commercial traveler .
2 .Mr. Bramble was Harold's father. He was a thirty one year old man who had an irregularly shaped nose.He was an overprotective father towards Harold and lied to him about his true profession. He was commonly known as Young Porky and was a professional boxer. He was also quite a sacrificing man as he had gone and sacrificed a lot of things for his family , even the naming of his son was a sacrifice on his part . Mr.Bramble was also an exceptional boxer and had achieved tremendous respect and fame due to his incredible feats .He was also a lover of truth.
3.a)Harold's mother , Mrs.Bramble, often addressed herself in the third person when she used to converse with Harold. This infuriated and irritated Harold as he thought that she was addressing a baby , instead of a young man of ten who had taken taken the spelling and dictation prizes on his head during the previous term . Thus , this made Harold to frown .
4.Major Percy Stokes was Mrs.Bramble's brother . He was quite an annoying and talkative fellow . He was also used to criticize others heavily , although he was quite a persuasive man himself.
5. Mr . and Mrs. Bramble quite frankly failed as fulfilling the role of being good parents. They were too keen on being extremely perceptive and overprotective of their son , Harold. They fed him on the fiction that his father was a commercial traveler and not a professional boxer named "Young Porky" . They thought that their little child prodigy would't be able to stomach this fact and thus would be ashamed that his father was a man of wrath. They never saw the fact that Harold also possessed a keen interest in boxing . He had put a bet on his father's victory and was also very happy that he was the son of such a celebrity . At the same time , he was enraged at his parents as he thought the whole lying to him was the silliest
and rotten idea that he had ever heard .
6. In the beginning , it seemed like Harold was a true child prodigy and a model of good behaviour . He was a scholarly child and was a master of intellectual tasks for his age . He had also won many prizes , like the dictation and spelling prizes . However , at the end , it was revealed that Harold was

just like any other child in the sense that he also had an interest in sports such as boxing and also bets on Young Porky's victory . He also comes to terms with the fact that his father is a professional boxer and also wants to show this off to his classmates and gain their respect.

1. It was necessary to keep Harold from knowing the truth about his father's profession because everybody in the family felt that Harold was a child prodigy and this would affect his mentality in a wrong way. Boxing wasn't considered to be a very respectable profession and people thought that Harold might feel ashamed of his father if he knew that his father was a mere boxer.
2. Mr. Bramble, was a professional heavy weight boxer. He was a tough sports person, yet a sensitive father who cared most about his son’s education. He like his wife was afraid that the truth about his profession might affect Harold’s education adversely. Thus, Brambles kept the truth from Harold. Though Mr. Bramble was a proud boxer, he was ready to forsake his profession for his son. However, the irony was that on knowing the truth, Harold was happy that it was his father who was young porky.
3. A slight frown was marring the smoothness of Harold Bramble's brow because his mother's habit of referring to herself in third person was annoying to him. It made her seem as if she was addressing a baby, instead of a young man of ten who had taken the spelling and dictation prize last term on his head. This habit would make him seem like a child in corollary to his mother's terms of reference.
4. Major Percy Stokes, brother of Mrs. Bramble, is not a major character in the story, however, has a distinguished role to play. He is as much concerned about Harold and his academics as Mrs. and Mr. Bramble. He made sure that the father's profession's truth is well kept from the boy. It was Percy who made Bill change his mind to not áght at the Nationals through his letters, until Jerry Fisher disclosed it all to Harold. It was only on being asked by Harold himself Mr. Bramble decided again ti fight.
5. Harold's parents were very particular to not disclose Mr Brambles identity to Harold. They thought that Harold would feel ashamed of his fathers true identity. They had failed to recognize Harold's interest in boxing. He says that "he would not have been called as goggles by his mate's". He had also betted that Jimmy Murphy would lose against Young Porky.
6. In the beginning of the story we see that Harold was considered to be a prodigal child, but by the end of the story we ánd that he is a normal child like any other child of his age. He accepts his father's profession and is very comfortable about it. He also bets on Young Porky and feels happy that now he can show off to his friends.

1) Harold had run to intellect,as his father had run to muscle.
2)Mr Bramble was a very famous boxer known as Young Porky. He was a caring father of 31.He had also done many sacrifices for his child but a very over protective father. 3) There was a frown on Harold's face each time his mother referred to him as a baby. Harold was a young man of 10 who had already taken the dictation and spelling prize on his head.
4)Major Percy Strokes is a very caring and helping brother. He is also annoying at times. 5)Harold's parents were very particular to not disclose Mr Brambles identity to Harold. They thought that Harold would feel ashamed of his fathers true identity. They had failed to recognize Harold's interest in boxing. He says that "he would not have been called as goggles by his mate's". He had also betted that Jimmy Murphy would lose against Young Porky. 6) "Harold was like any other child" this statement states that no child would like their father to withdraw from their profession just for their child, and this exactly what Harold did. This statement looks contrary to its beginning, as earlier it was stated that Harold was a prodigy who is not interested in anything excepstudies. There is a huge difference between the starting and the ending of the story.
