I infer that the Midwife chose to be a Patriot because she thinks it’s safer for the kids also because she doesn’t want to pay taxes. I infer this because the author said, “My payment, a yard of ribbon and a baby pig, does not tell the tale of why I am a Midwife.” Explaining that she doesn’t get paid well so she probably doesn’t have a lot of money for taxes.

And I think she is a loyalist because she does not want to lose her job and she she wants the kids to be loyalists to.
