Confident
Walter to Beneatha: “Who the hell told you you have to be a doctor? If you so crazy ‘bout messing ‘round with sick people—then go be a nurse like other women—or just get married and be quiet…” p. 38

Beneatha is very fearless. She does not listen to Walter's banter. She listens to her self and not society's harsh view on her dreams. She still wants to become a doctor. For example she says "…But first I’m going to be a doctor," p. 50 .

Self Reliant
I’m just tired of hearing about God all the time. What has He got to do with anything. Does He pay tuition? … It’s just that I get tired of Him getting credit for all the things the human race achieves through its own stubborn effort. There simply is no blasted God—there is only man and it is he who makes miracles!” p. 50

She believes more so in human accomplishments more so than spiritual accomplishments. She bases her beliefs on whats happening currently. She stands for humanity and equality. She does not stand for something she can not see. She believes humans just exist..

I believe Beneatha is a very beautiful character. She seems like she has her head on the right way. She is very eccentric person. She thinks out the box .She is fearless and outgoing. She does not care about anybody's opinion. I do not hold sympathy for Beneatha, she has nothing to hold pity for. She i very cultured and very stern.

Based on the vibrant colors it shows she has an eccentric way of thinking. She is very cultured and has a lot going on . This woman looks confident, bright and has her eyes on the prize. For example Beneatha says "Get over it? What are you talking about, Ruth? Listen, I’m going to be a doctor. I’m not worried about who I’m going to marry yet – IF I ever get married.” She has her mind set on becoming a doctor. She loves her African American Roots, she in fact, she takes a lot of pride in her culture.

She does not care if nobody likes her cultured hair styles. She does not care if people are judgmental on her career choice. She is her and she takes pride in her style. She knows she is beautiful. She loves the naturalness. Beneatha even says "How can something natural be eccentric". (pg.80) ’Cause I’m a woman ,Phenomenally." Phenomenally means extraordinary, she is diverse and is a very well put together female. She is very phenomenal in my opinion.

"Even if it makes others uncomfortable
I wanna love who I am
Even if it makes other uncomfortable
I will love who I am". (2:58)

I feel like this part of the relates to Beneatha because she does not care about society. She really does not care about Walter and his silly gender notions about becoming a female doctor. She loves her self. Even when George was insulting her for being interested in her culture. She really does not care, that is why she my favorite character. She remains true to her self.

Theme: We tend to let greed overrule our human judgement.

One example of this is when Ruth wanted an abortion. Ruth says to Walter “Yes I would have too,I gave her a 5 dollar down payment.” . Her living situation is not ideal for a baby. She does not want to bring a baby in a small apartment with no type of room for the child. Ruth does not go through with it , but it is a controversial decision that she has to decide whats good for her.
