The climax of the story happens that night when the wife wakes up begging Mr.White to use his last wish to bring their son back.“No,” she cried, triumphantly; “we’ll have one more. Go down and get it quickly, and wish our boy alive again.”-pg39

 Mr.White gives in and makes the wish then realizing it was a mistake in fear that his son will not be whole when they get him back. When she gets to the door she realized the top nolt is too high for her to reach meanwhile Mr.White is looking all over the ground on his hands and knees for the monkeys paw.”But her husband was on his hands and knees groping wildly on the floor in search of the paw.”-pg41

Mr.White finds the paw as his wife is using a chair to reach the top bolt and makes his final wish just in time so that when his wife opens the door there is nothing.
