I chose this video because I wanted to do this padlet on motivation and how to maintain it. I also wanted to get some tips to use myself because I am struggling for motivation at this point in my life. There was a lot of good advice in this video including: be an active learner in class, have a schedule for studying, find good study music, know when to quit something that is dragging your motivation for other activities down, and making time for real fun. I liked the advice in this video a lot because it was easily attainable tips, that was from someone who has experience in lack of motivation at school. Getting advice from someone who has already been through what you are experiencing is good because they know that the advice their giving works. This video just help you stay motivated so you work more timely and efficient.

I chose this video because I could really relate to the content. This video starts out with Thomas referring to an email that was sent to him by a student. This student says that he is "struggling to see the consequences of not studying, or not doing the assignment to the last possible second." He also says that he wants to be getting to these things earlier on, and tries to imagine the was it would feel to complete assignments, or the consequences that will come if he doesn't get it done but he can't bring himself to do it and finds himself doing anything but the assignment he's supposed to get done. i realized that I can 100% relate to the this student because I too can't seem to bring myself to get stuff done even if i want to, and find myself doing literally anything besides my assignments, just so I can procrastinate on them. I like what Thomas says in this video, which is that its not that this student cant motivate himself to study, it that he is unwilling to set up the systems to keep yourself motivated. I think he is really holding the viewer and student accountable and discrediting their excuses for unmotivation. His advice in this video was to create systems that keep you motivated, so for example the system would punish you if you didnt study, reward you if you did study, or make it harder for you to do anything but study. I liked this advice because for me systems really work in my everyday life so why wouldn't it when it comes to studying.

four step process on motivation

I chose this video because I struggle to stay motivated. In this video Thomas talks about the 4 step process that he uses to stay motivated: 1. Go outside and go for a walk- It is scientifically proven that exercise and vitamin D clear your head and give you motivation. 2. Decide on a single task, and stop trying to convince yourself that you can study while doing other distracting things like watching tv. 3. Clear to be neutral- clear up you workspaces so they are prepped for only the task at hand. 4. Use "low effort hack"- just write what is at the top of your head and come back and go into more detail later. I agree with all of these steps accept for the fourth step (low effort hack). This tip might work for some people but I just cant see myself coming back to a task that I have already moved on from, I would say that done good enough and just submit it. Another thing that I liked in this video was when he said: "The trick to motivation is getting yourself into flow state- where you are most immersed in your work." In think this a very true statement and something we should all think about when trying to get motivated.
