Theory 1 : Digital Narcissism (Andrew Keen)

Keen argues that the profusion of sharing online harming society, dividing, diminishing and disorienting. His main argument is that today's internet is killing our culture. He also stated that sharing individual data will lead to a generation of individuals without mystery .Overall social media will eventually turn that data into profit for their own.Andrew believes that we need to make social media a clean place and make it civil or the younger generation will react with aggression. His main objectives is to see new technologies and how we can come back fixing the "problem" of how the internet never forgets. When using social medias such as facebook we are seen as the product but generally social media treats us as consumers instead of citizens .

Personally i agree with Andrew Keen's arguments but only to an extent as i see he looks into theories deeper than it should be .I strongly agree with him when he states that we need to make the internet more suitable for humans and that we meed to think more carefully about how we use it.However when he progresses into saying that social media is dangerous as the government is slow and the real action is how Facebook is changing the world is where i do not necessary agree with him.

Online Age Professor of the Social Studies of Science and Technology Focuses her research on human technology interaction. She talks about how the use of technology not only changes what we do but how we think.

* She looks at negative issues surrounding false identity being created online (e.g.adults pretending to be young and young pretending to be adults)But Turkle suggests that assuming different personal identities can also be therapeutic.

* “Its one of the things that I argue gives it a kind of excitement as a place to live out your fantasies and experiment with aspects of yourself. But it also means that when you meet people online theyre not necessarily who they say they are.”

* Computer screens are the new location for our fantasies, both erotic and intellectual. We are using life on computer screens to become comfortable with new ways of thinking about evolution, relationships, sexuality, politics, and identity."

* She argues that children today are so used to simulated objects, an example she gives is robotic animals at a theme park, these robots move and play and entertain them. Then when the children see the real animal it is not as exciting as the real animal does what it wants (sleeps, eats etc) so the real animal does not appear as realistic to the child as the robot animal.

NEGATIVE:
* Communities also need the tools to required to produce and interpret the new methods of communication. This too has a limiting factor of having the resources to be able to obtain these tools and technologies.

All a level media consists a 'representation of identity' through 'identities in the media' case study- in a way the media has a direct force within in it which creates a reaction and a response from the audience.
However the media also allows the audience to access web 2.0 which allows us to create something that represents our person and social ideas and opinions. Within the media there is always a positive and negative impact which are known to be the cyber utopianism and cyber dystopianism

The cyber Utopianism and participation: Negroponte, Gauntlett and Jenkins
Nicholas Negroponte: talks about the potential social division which gives us a place to explore, connect and creates a diversity.
David Gauntlett: Suggests the idea of ' making is connecting'. this means that using platforms such at YouTube and Instagram creates an opportunity to create and share outputs with like-minded people which achieves creative potential.
Henry Jenkins: He mentions about the 'participatory culture'. Meaning that the traditional media is replaced by new generations of creative prosumers. He also says that social media such as Youtube mashup and Vimeo parodies allows us to reshape the mainstream ideas. For example social critic named Owen Jones claims that the TV show 'Jeremy Kyle Show' creates a 'chav' hatred as it is about working class with social issues. The dysfunctional working class identity publically shown on the TV show is for entertainment purpose. However White Dees says that is not to make a joke out of it and that they are actually socially concerned.

Cyber-utopian identities: Turkle and Giddens
Sherry Turkle: suggests that we have an opportunity which is presented through online 3D vitals which offers us to create self constructed avatar. In this way
