The Americans followed later but always came second in everything, including sending people to space. Until finally, the Americans sent the first man on the moon and ended the Space Race. It benefited both countries in adding to research, education and technologies.

Cuban Missile Crisis
- The Soviet Union had nuclear missiles stored in Cuba and threatened the U.S. by doing so. The U.S. demanded for them to be removed. The Soviet Union agreed to do so if they promised to not invade Cuba and remove the missiles that they had stored in Turkey as well. This gained a sense of distrust and had them pointing missiles at each other until the Cold War ended.
