The lack of resources and the fact that there were getting sick, and they couldn't do anything about it. They both agreed that it was the hardest thing that they had to do. The Allied Powers had less then the Central powers and was challenged to take them down. They had a big advantage because the had the machine guns, and they would take down their troops at a hundred men at a time. From the medical perspective, the soldiers were severely injured and it would take a lot for them to get back out.

The Trench System Similarities -
The Central Powers didn't like the trench system. They did not get fresh water and there were dead, rotten bodies. On top of that, it was cold. One of the sergeants shared his experience with the cold temperatures. In the middle of the day, he had boiling hot water and by 5 pm, it was frozen solid. "It was frozen so hard that an ordinary knife made hardly any impression on it." The conditions were said to be terrible and, in my opinion, not meant for people to be living in.
The Allied Powers, also, hated the trench system. There was "gluing mud," making it so much harder to do anything. There was a man was holding another man that had been injured. The mud was so sticky that he had started sinking down and as he tried to push of the mud to get back up, he was touching another mans face that was buried. The trenches were described as wet and cold (mainly at night). Also, it was said to be full of tired and starving men. All in all both sides hated living in the trenches, it was cold, wet, dirty and just overall unlivable for people.

They really loved the power they had when they used them, "never had the machine gunners such straightforward work to do nor done it so effectively." They could take down everyone and they could do it so easily. They loved it.
The Allied Powers were different. They were pretty intimidated by the machine guns because they did not have nearly as many as the Central Powers. They both had to deal with wounds ranging from easy to deal with to wounds that they had not been prepared for. Both sides had to deal with the fowl stench of rotting flesh and corpses. Some of the wounds had been of soldiers getting their body parts blown off, or part of the body part. "But it is multiple wounds that appear worst, men almost in pieces, the number intensifies the horror, we get so few slight cases."
