The assumption that all uber drivers are ethnically diverse and uneducated. Being automatically distrusting of service provider calls when they are from a person with an accent (thinking it's a scam just because the person on the other end has an Indian accent)

As I am in the process of applying for an internship, as a woman in STEM, I realized through an interview that society, and especially engineering companies, are not yet ready to recognize and value a woman and a man equally, applying for the same position. I was told, "This is a man's job, and are you sure that you are strong enough to handle the pressure ?"

a colleague of mine, who is a person of color, is repeatedly stopped and checked by the police. During traffic stops, he is often singled out without clear reason. It stands in contrast to my own experience — nothing like this has ever happened to me.

When applying for a job role or auditing for a spot in Uni. I’ll most probably be assessed by old Austrian professors or workers. I observed that when I introduce myself to those age and social class groups, I tend to pronounce my (turkish) Name very German and very much try to play into the stereotype of a young Austrian woman, in fear of disadvantages in the recruiting process caused by racism against turkish people.

I was on Seek and the job description said that they 'welcome all applications from those of diverse genders, sexualities, and races (including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders!)' I found it really odd that they singled out one ethnicity and then presented it as surprising (through the exclamation mark) that they would hire Indigenous people, even though I wasn't entirely sure if it was overt racism

i was born and raised in australia but half of my famil is in china. whenever i express my opinions on politics or economics to them i know that they're slightly skeptical of my 'western ways' 😅

I have a friend who is half Japanese and half American. She once told me that she is stressed by how Japanese people would talk to her in English although she spent most of her life in Japan. Because she does not look asian, people would assume that she cannot speak Japanese. She told me that this makes her feel that she is seen as an outsider.

When working as customer support for combank, at least one time per shift a customer will say "its so nice to talk to an Australian", even though all my other co-works were based in Australia, and way better at working the system than me.

when people ask for my ethnicity and follow up with a word/phrase that is completely a different language. It’s supposed to be a friendly gesture and break the ice but shows how people group people of similar geographical locations together.

As a hijabi and a South Asian woman, I've noticed that when I'm at functions or cultural events, people always assume that I will be very reserved or soft-spoken. It's never really said to me explicitly, but when they notice that I'm talkative, they always comment on how they're surprised. To be fair, it's often said as a compliment when they note that I'm friendly, but I still think it's an example of how even within our own culture stereotypes are inherent.

Often when I am meeting new people for the first time, they assume that I am studying a STEM degree. For context, I am half Asian, and nobody ever guesses that I study arts - I find it odd that we haven't seemed to move on from the 'all Asians are good at maths' stereotype

In the Philippines post ww2, foreigners started to migrate into the Philippines causing locals to be anxious. So locals gave nicknames for them and told their children to watch out for them or they'll kidnap you.

Recently I was taking a flight to get to Sydney and there were disruptions on my flight from Denver to San Francisco that caused me to miss my connection from San Francisco to Denver. Me and a white man both went to a desk to try and get accommodated as far as getting a new flight/hotel. I was told that they could not help me, but they had no problem stopping what they were doing to accommodate the white man.
