These three types of intelligence are so broad that they can encapsulate a large amount of people. This is helpful because psychologists can observe large amounts of data with a low amount of error between the groups. The types are so different that people rarely fall under two types equally.
People might have a distinguished skill that utilizes one type of intelligence, but calls on another to function properly. They have a variable ability to understand, detect, attribute, and manage their emotions and the emotions of people around them. 
This theory gives us a way to describe peoples empathy. Intelligence can be more than just knowledge and skills. Emotional intelligence can be used to better understand what makes someone empathetic.
This theory has many critics because they believe it’s trying to broaden the definition of intelligence.
