Impact on the Harlem Renaissance

Through the struggles that he faced, Morton became a better musician and forever changed the music industry. Jelly Roll Morton’s impact on the Harlem Renaissance was his innovation of a new style of jazz. Jelly Roll was different from other artists of his time because he tied in a smorgasbord of disparate elements making his songs unique. He infused many Africa musical styles into his songs such as, blues and ragtime, along with Caribbean, Hispanic, and popular white music. Morton’s music is truly a mixture of cultures, making each song blissfully well rounded and ingenious.
