<title>Greg Munks - Community Efforts as San Mateo County Sheriff by Greg Munks</title>
      <link>https://padlet.com/gregmunks/about</link>
<description>Gregory “Greg” Munks is a former Northern California law enforcement leader who held a role as San Mateo County sheriff and coordinated enforcement services in various communities. Greg Munks was successful in preventing gang violence while addressing systemic prison overcrowding through the creation of a state-of-the-art Redwood City facility. The aim was to decrease recidivism and promote inmates’ re-entry into the broader community.

Sheriff Greg Munks’ proactive stance led to him founding a program that offered disadvantaged young women scholarships to attend college. He also raised funds for the Sheriff&#39;s Activities League, a program that provides more than a thousand disadvantaged kids with summer and after-school activities. Each year, 100 children additionally participate in a 1-week program that combines traditional camp activities with gang and drug prevention mentoring.

Another innovative program Sheriff Greg Munks set in place was T.A.I.L.S., which allows inmates in jail to interact with and train rescue dogs prior to their adoption. The program has been successful in helping prisoners foster qualities such as empathy, while also structuring their time in custody.

Gregory Munks has received a number of accolades throughout his career, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ award for Police Officer of the Year in 1985.</description>
