As we all know, women have always been pictured as less than or not equal to men. This was shown throughout many years in earlier times through art. This year, in 2022, Roe vs. Wade was overturned. The overturning of Roe vs. Wade only affected women directly. We are no longer allowed to choose what we want to do with our bodies, at least in most states. This can be directly related back to earlier times in history, like when women didn't have the right to vote until 1920. On the other hand, women have always been sexualized through works of art. Women have been pictured as objects and someone to reproduce. The overturning of Roe vs. Wade goes to show that. This is still an ongoing problem in our world today. In object number four, a woman is shown nursing her child while another woman is grooming her hair. In object number five, multiple women and children are shown. The women are breastfeeding the children, just like the last object. In object number six, a woman is seen in a wooden coffin in her mummiform figure.

Back in 1889, women were seen as the gathers and men as the hunters. Women would be given "easier" jobs since women were seen as weaker than men. Men would be given the "harder" jobs that they thought women were incapable of. This of course can relate back to times now. Women are still seen as weaker, even though more and more women are starting to work in trades. In object number eight, Pissarro painted two women sitting above a field. This painting also relates back to what I was just discussing. Men were the ones working in the fields and doing manual labor. Women were not given the right to help since we were still seen as weak.

The artist wanted to show the values of the agrarian society, which was being threatened by industrialization in France. Through the painting, the artist wanted the people to see by their placement and size, that these two women carried the landscape area. As one can see, she is buried in a wooden coffin showing her full body figure. Her hands are crossed over her chest as if she was protecting them. Also, "A figure of the sky goddess Nut, wings outstretched in a protective embrace, is depicted across her abdomen," according to The MET. This is showing how women were seen as only mother figures, and how women started to see themselves only in that way.

These pieces of art reflected Indigenous women. In this piece, he used the semi-nude bodies of women and their facial expressions to represent "Tahitian Eve" (MET). He wanted to show that these women are able to walk around looking this way without any shame.
