Honestly, many of the options deserved to be saved (T.T). However, I specifically chose NR becuz Singapore is so urbanised that we are losing our natural environment. Moreover, we often take nature for granted and sacrifice it for our own interests. Finally, urban geographers may argue that Singapore is known to be a "garden city". If we endlessly destroy the natural spaces, do we deserve our title?

I want to save the rental housing. Having a shelter over the head is one's basic necessity. Having to move out of a home will affect one's family eco-system and lifestyle. If they have to move out, their renting fees might be change, schooling children would be affected in terms of school distance. Especially for single parents who have to make ends meet, having their kids to travel by transport may disturb them financially and especially the travelling time too. A single parent might be juggling between jobs and sending their kids to school so it is going to be hard for them. Destroying their homes will create instability in all areas of their life.

Rental housing should definitely be saved because now that sg is an aging population, there are many elderlies that need to be cared for. We cant just displace them especially when that area is VWO active. They needed the care and support from these people. Besides that, nowadays young adults/adults are working, they seldom have the time to care for their parents, with this rental housing, the elderlies can get the support they need.

Aside from elderlies, youth at risk and single parents need these rental housing as they might not have the financial freedom. This rental housing benefits them both ways, having financial support in terms of house rental being cheap and having emotional support from the VWOs.

The temple is a testament to Singapore's multiculturalism that the country considers as utmost importance. Furthermore, it's one of the country's oldest temples, it could mean that it is connected to the people beyond just emotional attachments but also spiritual attachments. To sacrifice the temple would most likely incite the strongest emotions to object against it, and the fallout of such decisions may lead people to question the validity of the country's multicultural identity that it strove so hard to achieve.

As mentioned in the brief summary, the building of the MRT line will cut down traveling time by half and also create additional 1000 jobs in the transport sector. By preserving the rental housing, means that this could potentially help in the employment rate within the area and also to uplift the income level of the people living in the rental flats. In additional, having a roof over the head is something important as well and as mentioned in the points, the estate is already a well established neighbourhood which means that the communal spirit is strong, in my personal opinion it would be a waste to demolish it just for the purpose of building a new MRT station.

In a multiracial country like Singapore, we must make sure every race/religion is represented equally. Why remove a Hindu temple when the Chinese temples and Mosques still remain, because that may lead to unpleasantness. It is important to take into consideration the thoughts of every religious group even if they are a minority group. I think all the other places mentioned here are common places for every race. Although they are still significant, this site is significant to one particular religion and could cause much distress in its absence to that religious group.

Biodiversity once destroyed, cannot be easily restored. Natural habitats should be adequately preserved for future generations. Additionally, such an ecosystem provides clean air, water and helps regulate the weather. Other sites although well-established, can be relocated or signs can be put up at that place (once it is demolished) to educate/ remember the place it once used to be.

- low-income families are the ones who need more help than others
- removing this site will decrease the number of available rental flats, potentially causing more stress for stressful low-income families. This may lead to more social issues such as homeless, depression, suicide, etc
- as VWOs are active in this area, this provides more direct social support for many families
- with well-established neighbourhood programmes, help can be rendered more effectively for residents who need more help. The programmes can be a form of intervention for youths at risk, helping and supporting families and providing an avenue for single elderly to seek for help

All in all, people who are in the lower end of society needs more help than others, hence saving this site can help many people who are already struggling to survive in Singapore's society.

Initially, I picked Research hub on the practical thought that having a transport line would create better access --> more employment opportunities and participation in the labour force. This may boost ecnonomy.

HOWEVER, it led to be researching what is the rental environment in SG and actually from a short glance, it seems like there is a lack of rental infrastructure. Hence, I feel like based on demand/supply, perhaps rental facilities should be prioritised. Having a house is definitely one of the primary needs for anyone. On top of that, having a new transport line which is near rental facilities will help the occupants in having more opportunities further away. This may in turn help them financially as public transport is cheaper and made accessible!

When rehousing the low-income families, it may hamper their current social mobility to climb up to social ladder, help given in the new estate may not be the same or worst may decrease if they would be house in a different neighborhood. As there are more then 4000 residents that will leave the government a bigger headache on housing especially with land scarcity. There are programs which had been well received by the residents there and they may not get use to the new area base on relocations (especially if they do not have a choice on the area).
