Technology gives students access to a wide world of information. Some schools face roadblocks in the pursuit of technology for all and struggle to keep their classrooms (and students) in the 21st century. However, the use of technology and the internet in the classroom can also be distracting and less than ideal for some schools. Over-use of technology can lead to over-dependence and laziness when it comes to problem-solving or basic academic tasks.

Many students in the United States live in poverty. The effects of poverty are felt by whole communities as well as schools. Mostly, the effects of poverty are felt by students who come to school hungry, cold, tired, or overworked. Schools that serve large numbers of low-income families often have fewer resources available to them to provide adequate services to support students and families.

Some schools in the United States are considered highly diverse. These schools are beautiful in many ways but also face some unique challenges, mostly due to decades of systemic racism and prejudices. Highly diverse schools are often serve a large number of low-income families, tackle language barriers, and must be intentional in creating an inclusive environment (far beyond simple "Diversity Day" formalities).

Each of these issues should be of interest to all educators, as they can greatly affect all students and schools in different ways. To effectively teach and care for students, each issue must be addressed with care and intentionality.
Interestingly, diversity connects to poverty through systemic racism, poverty connects to technology through roadblocks faced by low-income schools with limited funding, and technology connects to diversity by creating connections between different types of people and increasing the availability of resources that include diverse groups of people.
