The line from Langston Hughes' poem that best goes with Cory Maxson in the movie/play "Fences" is “Just sags like a heavy load”(Hughes Line 10-11). Throughout the play Cory always had the dream to play football. Cory was getting recruited by a college but his dad was not caring about that and says it is a waste of time and you might not even play even if you are better than white men. Troy cared about him staying local and getting a job that means something instead of it meaning nothing. "I get good grades, Pop. That’s why the recruiter wants to talk with you. You got to keep up your grades to get recruited. This way I’ll be going to college"( Wilson 50). This says that Cory wants to go to college to get recruited so it can complete his dream but since his dad says no his dream.

The motto the goes with Cory Maxson in the movie/play "Fences" is Your pain today will be your strength tomorrow. This is because he was in pain by his father not believing in him, not letting him play football and was afraid of him in the past. "You ain’t never done nothing but hold me back. Afraid I was gonna be better than you. All you ever did was try and make me scared of you." (Wilson 124). He says this to his father saying that you aren't scary to him anymore. He says this to get rid of the pain that he had in the past being afraid of his father.

Character's theme song

The theme song that Cory Maxson from "fences" would be survivor by 2WEl. This song goes with Cory because he was in the army and was able to make it back alive and not dying. Another way that Cory survived was he survived in his house because he was afraid of his own father. I picked this song because in the song it talks about surviving and that's what Cory did.
