Making a post

To add something to our Padlet board, simply double click on any open area. Then type your addition. Once you've finished, click somewhere else to post!

Adding extras

At the bottom of posts, you'll notice a few icons. They allow you to add additional features such as videos, images, and attachements. Sometimes though, I find it easier to just post a link right in the post instead

Looking to edit?

When you hover over a post, you will notice a green pencil icon in the upper right. Clicking it will allow you to edit/change what's in the post. The red trash can icon will delete the post entirely

Do your best not to alter/change the posts of other contributors! It's better to let them make the changes.

Changing the size

You can make your "sticky note" wider if you click the green editing pencil icon and move your cursor to the right hand side of the post. Once you do, and arrow will appear that allows you to drag and enlarge your note

Organizing/Moving Posts

It's helpful to keep our posts organized so we can find what we need. Once you've posted, click on the post to drag it to it's proper place

Do you think it will be difficult to have a discussion and not be distracted by Padlet?

It will definitely take some discipline! I'm hoping Padlet will make our discussion that much better, but if it becomes a distraction we'll ditch it and find another way.

Should I post my learning tool on our Padlet?

Only when/if it would be helpful to those in the discussion. Don't just put your learning tool on the board. Provide it when it's MOST helpful to others

Socratic Circles are a way to engage in a discussion or debate. They help students to improve their oral argument and listening skills while helping them to build knowledge about a particular topic.

Discussion Participants

Approximately half the class will be starting as members of the discussion group. They will be the ones who speak and share their opinions and questions during the discussion. This image illustrates what the set up looks like...

Coaches

The second group will be known as the "coaches". The role of coaches is to provide feedback to discussion participants. They will be asked to provide their partner(s) will helpful tips and ways to improve.

How long will the discussion last?

It really depends on the group. Most discussions last about 20-30 minutes. Keep in mind we will need to have two discussions so that each person can participate in the discussion and be a coach.

How will coaches give feedback?

Coaches wil observe for the entire discussion. Halfway through, we will have a "halftime". Coaches will then be asked to meet with their partner(s) and provide them with strengths and next steps. We will repeat this process at the conclusion of the discussion.

What does a successful discussion look like?

What is the difference between a socratic discussion and a debate?

Socratic circles involve coaches who observe and give feedback. In a debate, you usually don't have that. Instead you would just have a teacher or group of teachers judge who won the debate

What else can we use Padlet for besides Group Discussions?

We might use it to share resources. For example, if we're all researching a similar topic, we could build a text set using Padlet

Padlet will help us in a few ways. First, it will allow us to share resources (like your learning tools). Additionally, it will allow others to participate when they don't feel like they have an opportunity to. Third, it will be a great tool for us to reflect on our discussion and research

You have access to padlet anytime you need it. However, it's probably best to ask your teacher

No. The coach will only provide feedback for their partner. Notice, I'm deliberately using the word feedback and not grade.

A fishbowl is another name/nickname for Socratic circles

Why are we using this if you don't what us to b look at aour Chromebooks. I think this is going to be another distraction and the socratic circle is going to be too busy.

Yes! Think about all the great tools you'll have in front of you by using the chromebook. Even Presidential candidates bring notes to their debates! However, my biggest fear is that the chromebooks will be a distraction. We'll have to find the right balance between using them and engaging in a conversation
