I have concerns of whether or not the PLC process is truly working for those of us that teach singletons. I watch some of the amazing work being done in PLCs that are presenting at PDs, and know that I am nowhere close to that. I feel that the current Monday PLC timeblock is a waste of time for me, and if anything it gets used for "PLC" meetings that really turn into department meetings. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that none of the performing arts teachers have attended any PLC PD, or if it is because we are all singletons and therefore aren't getting the same drive and motivation from each other that other PLCs are getting. I see presentations like the SM2, SM3, APLit and know that the PLC process is working in our school, but it is not working in our end of the building. Please help.

Huge Shout Out to Melissa, Britt, Jamie, Lars, John, Matt and Steve. The stuff you presented on 4/25 is really great stuff. I have some questions, but overall I am very impressed and happy to call you all colleagues.
Follow up questions:
>>> If someone elects to only grade proficiency on Standards, and not compliance, how do you ever control pacing. I feel as if you would always be reteaching material for those who have chosen not to work on the standard yet.
>>> If we decide that standards based grading is the new answer (which I support on many levels), but we aren't holding kids accountable for compliance and responsibility, I believe we have failed as public educators. I feel as if colleges have complained for years about students being unprepared for college from a content standpoint, so school responded by increasing rigor; but if we don't teach a student about hard deadlines, consequences for non-compliance, etc., colleges will have new complaints over the next 10 years.
>>> All presentations today hit on the topic of grading compliance, including grading compliance once a student has demonstrated proficiency and/or mastery. I think this is a much bigger and more important conversation than we are currently giving time to. I also firmly believe it is something that we should evaluate at a school level so there is a common expectation about turning in work on time, meeting deadlines, etc. If certain teachers want to offer retake and redo, I support that, but we have to make sure that we don't undermine the system of teaching kids to meet deadlines.
