The salt and alkaline solution caused the cells to burst.</p><p>what he termed "nuclein" precipitated out</p><p>notice that it was made up of phophorus</p><p>- recalled that DNA is made up of sugar phophate backbone</p><p>- Meischer was not able to understand the importance of phosphorus while he was alive</p><p>- Phoebus Levene from Meischer's work was able to understand that in the nucleus there was a mix of proteins and nucleic acids</p><p>- Levene propsoed the tetranucleotide theory - 4 different nucleotides, each with a different chemical structure and linked by a phophodiester bond. <br></p><p>- looked a DNA as a repeating polymer of tetranucleotides</p>]]></description>
