This reveals how she feels compassion for others especially Lyons even though he isn't her biological son.

(1.1.17). This shows that Lyon is not self sufficient enough to find a stable job and thinks of his own dads job as disgusting and something he wouldn't want to do. It also shows he thinks his dads job is "Below" him. -Julian, Phil

This shows Lyons' hubris, as he views himself too good to do such a job. This makes him reliant on other people until he is able to establish himself as a successful musician. This can also be a strength, as he won't let others take advantage of him, but due to the above reason is generally a weakness.

Murphy Digan: Troy is a very hard worker. He works hard to make sure his family is physically supported, making money to make sure they have food to eat, and a house to live in. "There it is. Seventy-six dollars and forty-two cents" (1.1.19). Troy gives his son ten dollars, making sure Lyons is able to support himself.

Flaw- Overly polite

Before the end of the act she had repeatedly allowed Troy's rude comments to be said without any serious repercussion. "Troy, why don't you hush that talk" (1.1.11). Troy continues talking over Rose after this and she doesn't do anything about it. This shows how she tries to be polite but ends up being a bit of a doormat to Troy's behavior.

Bono is a supportive and funny friend throughout Scene 1, and this is an example of that.

Troy can be cruel to his son and Rose is trying to explain to him that all Cory wants to hear is "good job, son" and Troy responds with, "Rose, I ain't got no time for that," (1.3.39). This is a big flaw because it makes him appear as if he doesn't care about his family which in turn makes Cory believe that he doesn't love him.

Strength: This shows Troy's dedication to his family and his job, and the stuff he is put up with in order to provide for his family. In particular, Cory.

Flaw: This additionally demonstrates how Troy's parenting is very pragmatic and emotionless. While providing for the material needs of his family through his hard work, Troy does not provide for the mental and emotional of his family.

Murphy Digan: Gabriel's mental disability can be perceived as both a flaw and a strength. During WW2, Gabriel suffered a head injury, making him disabled. Gabriel's disability makes him unable to take care of himself which can be perceived as a flaw. However, this can also be perceived as a strength, because Gabriel brings people together, staying with his brother for a very long time, so his brother could take care of him. "Naw... I ain't mad at you, Gabe". Gabe feels that Troy is mad at him, which shows that Gabe feels more empathetic, and considerate. "Man go over there and fight the war... Messin' around witht hem Japs, get half his head blown off... and they give him a lousy three thousand dollars."
