Song one is a song called Slow Learner by Viagra Boys, a post punk band from Sweden.

This song is about a young man, who is an outcast from society and is academically challenged. he isn't bothered by anything in the world but, at the same time, isn't pleased by anything, just numb.

This song consists of a simple drum beat, a very constant rhythmic baseline, a guitar that is used for offbeat accents, a synth that has a staggered chord progression, a very sporadic saxophone solo and a lightly distorted and aggressive vocal that almost has a flanger quality.

The song is 152 bpm and time signature of 4/4 and is in the key of A.

Song two is a song called Broken Box by Queens of The Stone-age.

This song is about lead singer, Josh Homies, ex wife and is sort of a disstrack aimed at her and highlights her disloyal qualities and toxicity towards Josh during there marriage. This is frequently shown in lyrics such as "go and find yourself another slave" and "tears from the sky and pools of pain, well baby tonight I'm gonna go and dance in the rain"

The song consists of a piano with one chord playing throughout the verses, a distorted baseline that follows the rhythm of the piano, clapping to replace the snare drum, which adds more sonic depth to the song, a guitar that has a wah pedal being used to make almost dj scratch's with in the chorus and a distorted vocal that uses allot of falsetto which is josh's signature style of singing.

the song is 132 bpm, is in the key of D and has a time signature of 4/4.

What i did for my project

^ We were asked to do a cover of a song and we picked to do glory box as we all had interest in it and it was of every ones taste so we didn't have to compromise.

What did you hope to achieve and do you think you've achieved?

^ I hoped to learn more about communicating in the environment and work together and how to work under pressure and i believe that the performance was executed to a decent standard were we were all happy with how it sounded in the end

What went well?

^ We worked around a group disagreement fast so it wouldn't put us off working it didn't take away the practice time. we had a band member leave and worked without him and then got someone to help us in some practice sessions and for our performance.

What could you improve?

^ I think i could improve on being braver and putting myself out there more by doing some vocals as well as guitar, i think this will help a lot with my confidence

What would you do differently?

^ I would of been a bit more organised on what pedals i needed and what kind of tone i was going for, eventually after trying a few combinations of pedals i came to a conclusion that the boss TR2 tremello pedal for the verses and the big muff fuzz pedal for the choruses and solo were the perfect combination to add some texture and depth to my parts that i was playing

What have you learnt?

^ I learnt how to work with a band better and communicate to make the band work with every ones opinions and ideas

together. this would help us work with other people quicker as we got on very well and also again to boost my confidence with my stage presence.

How does your project support your future progression?

^ I think this project will support me with my future in the music industry because it has shown me how to work with other musicians at a professional level and getting my course work done before the deadlines has tested my ability to work on demand and to stay motivated which is a really important part because it shows reliability weather your going into writing producing and many more branches of the music industry

what did you enjoy about the course?

^ I have enjoyed everything about the course so far because it is my greatest passion and i love to perform practise compose and write but i also love the theory side of things such as the different elements of music.

I first started with a UK garage beat which i made on the beat sequencer in logic pro and chopped it up in some parts to go along with the chopped up vocal sample and exported it to a track that had a very dry signal and the EQ down from 50 to 330 HZ so then when the beat dropped it would have a feeling of a release of energy as the fuller and bassy-er duplicate of this track would take over, and this track had the PHAT FX plugin working its magic to fine tweak the bass texture and correcting any harshness in the high frequences

then for the synth i used two simple chord progressions in a early 2000s stabby rythem, i used the bitcrusher plugin for some slight distortion, the E.V.O.C. track oscillater which i used to add a 7th to the chords and a high pass filter to give the synth a lofi quality

The vocal sample is from the song one for the trouble by the New York rapper A.D.O.R. then i chopped it up into phases a Rythmic sounding noises to go along with the chopped up drums and then just before the beat drops i cut out the all the tracks apart from the vocals which i move onto a separate audio track and use chromaverb reverb plugin and a bitcrusher plugin to get a low quality but ambient sound that's soft just before all the components come back together so then there's a big contrast and you feel the energy of the song exploding and the textures of the components all working together.
