Over training occurs when an athlete does high intensity training in high volumes without including adequate rest between these sessions. This affects an athletes recovery and will prevent physiological adaptations. Over training leads to poor performance, fatigue, tiredness, lethargy, a lack of motivation and ultimately injury. Planning to avoid over training improves performance because the athlete is able to recover and avoid injury.
