Draft your unit plan, or revise an existing unit plan, accounting for the steps below and considering the questions offered below.


Alignment

  • Access the material available to plan your unit (curriculum guide, texts, your previous lesson plans, district standards)
  • Compose the "I can" statements that will capture students' essential learning needed to succeed on the culminating event and key unit standards (Remember what you learned about UDL GOALS)

Sequence

  • Organize those "I can" statements into logical groupings.
  • Sequence the groupings in the ideal order for students to encounter them.

Evidence

  • Identify locations for formative and summative assessments

Consider the following questions:

  • To what key learning standards/targets does the instruction align? How will you make this clear to students (CLARITY IN GOALS)
  • At what key points in the unit will you check for student understanding of vital skills/content? (FREQUENT CFUs)
  • Where might students experience barriers with learning a concept/skill, and thus extra attention to first instruction may be needed? (PROACTIVE SUPPORTS)
  • How does instruction align in rigor and content to the culminating event?  How is instruction current and relevant to learners?(CONNECTION, AUTHENTICITY)
