I love my subject. When I do demos, I finish the work later, so that I stay active with my own work. I feel more fulfilled and motivated to teach art, when I am making art myself. I don't know exactly how this would apply to a math teacher, but so many of us are passionate about what we do, but can't find the time to do our own work. so I work it into my lessons and demos that I share what i'm doing. it helps my teaching and makes me a happier person.

When you have a good relationship with parents. They are more likely to support you when/if a challenge comes up with their students. They already know you care for their student and want whats best for them. So you will not waste time with convincing them (when challenges happen parents have their defences up as soon as you call/contact them), and get to solving the problem.

I've been fortunate to have a student teacher each year for the past five years. Something I tell them is that I have chosen to do this job between the hours of 7 AM and 4 PM (except for extra events, etc.). Well, guess what - the job can't be done in that time frame. So you are necessarily going to have to choose some aspects or areas where you "suck" at your job, so you can excel (or even be adequate) in the areas that matter most.

I prioritize things that will have the greatest positive impact on my students and reduce the stress/load on me. Sometimes those are mutually exclusive. You can do everything, but you can't do everything at the same time. And not all "good" things are necessary.

We often think saying 'no' means things we don't want to do, but in reality, it's usually saying no to things we really DO want to do, but will make it harder to do things we MUST do.
