The Great Gatsby is placed in an era of rejuvenation and prosperity after the first world war. The 1920's, also known as the roaring 20's, was a time of new music, dance, and style that came with the new found wealth in America. In the book, jazz music is incorporated into Gatsby's elaborate parties and exemplifies Gatsby himself and the new 'young money', risk takers of this era.

1.Three O'clock In the Morning by Paul Whiteman (Jazz)
"It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you, There's nothing a hundred men or more could do"
-This song is played at Gatsby's party as Nick, Jay, and Daisy are talking about how Gatsby gained so much wealth. More importantly it is played as Nick thinks about the possible chance that Jay could meet another women and lose his feelings for Daisy all together.
-Fitzgerald included this song to show that Gatsby wouldn't leave her and that now after so many years of waiting for her, nobody could get in between them. Creates a mood of reassurance and hope for them to work.
2.The Sheik of Araby by Fats Waller (Jazz)
"When I lay down to sleep, I'm counting girls instead of sheep."
-This song is played while Jordan and Nick are driving through New York and they are discussing how Gatsby and Daisy used to date. Jordan explained that Gatsby's big move to the West Egg was in hopes of finding Daisy once again.
-Fitzgerald included this song to talk about the way Daisy ran through Gatsby's mind every night. It was used to show the effect she had on him for years and also was able to show Gatsby's loyalty as he passed on the hundreds of women that were often at his house. Create a mood of love and desire.

3.Aint We Got Fun by Van and Shenck (Foxtrot)
"Times are so bad and getting badder, still we have fun."
-As Daisy takes a look into Gatsby's mansion for the first time, Kilpsinger plays this song on the piano while they tour around the house.
-Fitzgerald includes this song to foreshadow the upcoming unfortunate and bad events that happen to the couple but assure the audience that no matter what they'll be happy as long as they are together. Creates a mood or rebellion and the need for love.

"Give me a run for my money, there is nobody, no one to out run me...just love me, I wanna be with you"
-This song relates to "Three O'clock in the Morning" by conveying a mood of hope and chance between two people. Gatsby needs another chance to be with the woman of his dreams and this song is a plea for her to give him one more try.

2. Earned It by The Weeknd (R&B)
"You know our love would be tragic, so you don't pay it, don't pay it no mind, we live with no lies...and you're my favorite kind of night"
-This song relates to "The Sheik of Araby" by expressing the deep emotion that flows between two individuals. It talks about the fact that the love could easily not work out and that taking the risk and committing could prove to work. The mood of desire and lust is in both as the relationship is taken with no worries as they mind their own business and only think about one another.
3. ww"We found love in a hopeless place, Shine a light through an open door, love and life I will divide."
-This song relates to "Aint We Got Fun" because they both describe the ability to have a good time during a bad time.
The rebellious and care free mood created in both songs perfectly exemplifies the risky relationship shared between Daisy and Gatsby. Even though the circumstances were not perfect and could be seen as hopeless they assessed their love, life, and happiness and pushed forward with being together.
