The chapters  XXIII and XXIV Anderson wrote about Isabell being dragged around and branded with and I for insolence. Branding was a form of ownership anr punishment, In Isabel's case it was punishment. In the chapter XXV The mistress would not even talk directly to Isabel, she would tell the housekeeper to tell Isabell to do things. The mistress would not even make eye contact with Isabell because the mistress only saw Isabel and an object , not a person.
