This report discusses an experiment to study the effect of oxygen rates on geminating and non-germinating mung beans. Since the same type of beans are being tested, it will be a constant. The objective of this experiment is to test whether germinating or non-germinating mung beans have a higher oxygen respiration rate. The respiration rate was examined over a 10-minute period using 25 grams of mung beans for each trial. Three trials were recorded for both germinating and non-germinating mung beans. A measurement was recorded on the data table every minute.

Analysis

The purpose of the experiment is to see whether germinating or non-germinating mung beans have a higher oxygen respiration rate. The findings in this data include, the graph for average oxygen rate per minute in germinating mung beans. The germinating mung beans have a positive trend. The graph for the average oxygen rate per minute in the non-germinating mung beans also have a positive trend. This correlation is weak because, for the first 5 minutes the oxygen rate (%) remained at 4.7. The hypothesis states, If the amount of oxygen produced by germinating and non-germinating mung beans tested over a 10-minute period, then the respiration rate will be higher in germinating mung beans and will generate more oxygen than non-germinating mung beans. This hypothesis was accepted within this experiment. A scientific error occurred in trial 3 for the germinating mung beans. The mung beans did not produce as high of an oxygen rate; therefore the mung beans did not respire as much in the other two trials. The reason being that trial three for the germinating mung beans was invalid is because the oxygen rate for this trial was considerably lower than the rest of the trials. The three trials recorded for non-germinating mung beans are valid. An extension of this experiment could be to extend the time period for the seeds to germinate and respire. After the beans respire, the oxygen rate should be taken every minute for a 20-minute period instead of a 10-minute period.

During this experiment, mung beans were tested to determine whether the germinating or non-germinating beans had a higher oxygen respiration rate. There were three trials each per minute for a 10-minute period to find the oxygen respiration rate. The germinating and non-germinating beans both had positive trends on their graphs. The hypothesis stated in the experiment was accepted because the oxygen respiration rate was higher in the germinating mung beans compared to the non-germinating mung beans.
