This is an American bison. Its height can reach 2 meters and weigh more than a ton. More than forty years ago, three animals were brought from the Askania-Nova Biosphere Reserve. Here they live in semi-free conditions in an aviary (fenced steppe area of about 70 hectares). Currently, the number of bison is 25 individuals. Visit the reserve "Elanetsky steppe", get acquainted with these giants and feel the beauty and depth of the Ukrainian steppe.
3.Founded in 1996.
4.Free entrance.

Kamyana Mohyla is a world monument of ancient culture in Ukraine near Melitopol. Peace in the Zaporozhye region on the river Molochnaya, National Historical and Archaeological Reserve. The hill, which has served as an altar for religious ceremonies for thousands of years, contains several thousand unique ancient rock paintings - petroglyphs.

Geologically and historically, the Stone Tomb is one of the unique monuments of this kind. This is the remnant of sandstone of the Sarmatian Sea of the Tertiary period (XIV-XII million years BC), which occupied the territory of the Black, Azov and Caspian Seas.

Millions of years ago there was a sandstone shoal here. Later, when the Pontic Sea arose, limestone deposits formed at this site. The sea is gone, the desert has reigned. Reddish-brown clays containing iron and manganese appeared. Later, the depressions of the Pra-Molochnaya River were formed here, the waters of which passed deep into the earth, and oxides of iron and manganese came to the surface, forming a rocky rock. So gradually a sandstone monolith appeared on this place. During the melting of the glacier in the north (its border reached the area of modern Dnepropetrovsk) "big water" flowing to the south, formed river valleys. Due to the natural deepening of the Molochnaya riverbed, a huge island was on the surface of the valley. Under the action of water and wind, the primary shield of the sandstone split, and its fragments slipped on the sand, and a kind of stone hill emerged. Over time, the plates acquired amazing shapes and shapes. Today on many of them you can see the prints of mollusks of the Sarmatian Sea. However, this is not a chaotic accumulation of slabs, but a stone shell in which grottoes and caves were formed, which proved to be very convenient for the cult purposes of ancient people.

At the very top of the hill is a sacred place - an ancient altar, where religious rites were performed. It is especially important to note that the central sanctuary at the Stone Tomb was built not only according to all traditional canons - to be "open to the public", but also located at the point of the energy "pillar" with a positive charge.

The first information about the amazing monument of nature and ancient culture dates back to the end of the XVIII century: in 1778 the Russian military leader OV Suvorov appointed a place for the post office near the Stone Tomb. In 1793, on the map of Melitopol district of the Tavriya region, the natural monument was marked as "Stone-YuYun-Tashch" (translated from Turkic means "mountain, prefabricated stone"). For a long time, there was no mention in the historical literature of the Stone Tomb and its rock paintings preserved on the ceilings of grottoes and caves. Only in 1837, when Academician P.I. Köppen, there is a report of the extraordinary monument "Stone Tomb". 50 years later, a new message about the unique monument appears. Archaeologist MI Veselovsky, known for his sensational excavations of Scythian mounds, visited the Stone Tomb in the late 19th century and partially explored ancient images in its grottoes and caves. The turning point in the history of the study of the monument of primitive culture was 1936-38, when the Azov-Black Sea expedition led by O.M. Badera. In the grottoes and caves of the Stone Tomb, scientists have discovered unique images: a bull in the grotto "Mammoth", "foot plates", "horse plates", linear-geometric images, etc., which allowed to recreate the life and culture of ancient peoples who inhabited our steppe.Cost:
30 грн
Stay time:
~ 1 one o'clock
