We found it interesting how there is a school specifically catered to educate youth about sustainability. 

We connected on our shared feelings on people who do not believe in climate change, and with the fact that most politicians state that they will make a change yet continue to do nothing

We were surprised to learn the fact that Balinese people have to inhale the toxic gases that are equal to inhaling around 40 cigarettes a day. 

We thought the big ideas discussed were: sustainability, self-empowerment, responsibility. 

We learned how each country is affected by climate change in their own ways. 

We want to know more about how we can make a difference and some practical ideas we can implement as students to encourage sustainability. - this year in term one we leant about ocean acidification, and how we felt the school never completely committed. we felt as though we were exposed but not immersed

we found it interesting:
- 20% of youth is the population, but 100% of the future
- we found the reverse culture shock was very interesting, how she felt she was going backward and was being overtaken by the consumerist life

we connected with:
- we connected with how difficult it can be to start the conversation and learn about the issues
- many of the conversations about climate change are made by adults in places of power, when we as the 'future' should be included as it is ours lives they are planning, we have to face the consequences of their actions
- her family went on holiday and the bush fires came in that direction, and the old couple said that climate change isn't real, which made her realize that she shouldn't use all of her energy to try and change someone's mind who won't change

We already knew that the news lies to cover up it's incompetence. 

We found it interesting by 2030 there more plastic than fish in the sea. How the world is currently working on a linear spectrum rather than a circular one (reuse, reduce, recycle)

We connected with her student life (Ruby's) to our student life. 

We were surprised that there's no lifestyle without producing any trash. 

We thought big idea discussed were that it was surprised that although climate change was discussed no one really followed it. 

We learned we are the main people who make a change to the world and if we don't do anything the world will become garbage. 

We want to know more about if the world will change if contribute more.

We knew a bit about deforestation and how people were destroying animals' habitats to produce palm oil.

We found the Green Zone school was really interesting as it showed us that people with a bit of passion, willpower and hope can form groups to help save the planet from climate change.

We connected with the idea of youth's ideas being dismissed or unheard of as well as attending a private girls school. We were also connected by being a consumer and contributor to the palm oil problem, and that we needed to speak up if we wanted to see change.

We were surprised about how Ruby was able to come to the choice of being a minimalist as well as joining the Bali school to learn all about sustainability. 

We thought the big ideas discussed were the dismissal of the importance of climate change, the prevention of young people's voices to be heard, and the devasting effects produced by our everyday lives e.g eating products with palm oil.

We learned a lot about the ideology of questioning how things are made to be if they're incorrect or ruining the futures of the younger generation. We also learned about how important it is to speak up for what you believe in.

We connected with the Bali Green Program as at Hazel Glen College we have a similar program called The Experiential Program. This program is hands on like the one Ruby participated in, in Bali. We would love to see our program be more about real world issues and being able to make a change. 

We would love to see more local initiatives such as more bins, recyclable bins holes be wider instead of a circular hole that you cannot fit anything into. We would like to see a state initiative where the government passes a law that companies must make their products with 50% recyclable materials. - how the environment and culture influence our ability to live sustainably. We found it interesting that Ruby naturally fell back into a consumption lifestyle in Australia. Was this habit or the influence of the broader culture? 

- how can we nurture the land so the land nurtures us?

- take little steps - chickens, grow veggies

- what can we do at our school? Does our canteen sell food with palm oil? 

- We all wanted to go and live at the Green School! But is it fair to compare Green School with regular schools in Australia? Can we all be the Green School? 

- Seeing someone else take action can inspire us to also take action. 

- Developing countries don't have the infrastructure for sustainable waste removal. We are lucky but out of sight, out of mind removes our responsibility for our own waste. Strong sense that we'd love to live waste free but so hard as young people to influence buying choices. 

- As individuals it is easy to think that we can't make a difference. We are largely unconscious of how much rubbish we produce; but if we all think like this, how can we achieve change?
