Surgery can fix cleft palates or heart problems. Hormone Therapy can be used to treat growth development issues. Speech therapy or special education can help with the learning disabilities of CES. And finally physical therapy can help develop motor skills.

Cat Eye syndrome, also known as Scmid Fraccaro syndrome, is a chromosomal disorder. The name of the disorder derives from one of it's symptoms, iris coloboma. This missing of the ocular tissue gives the eye an appearance similar to that of a cat. Unlike it's name may suggest, there is much more to the disorder than the appearance of one's eyes, some individuals with the disorder even lack this trait. Many symptoms and side effect come with the disease such as heart, growth, hormone, development, hearing, and eye problems or issues. The disorder derives from the 22nd chromosome, where the two chromosomes that are meant to have short and longer arms appear multiple times. CES affects 1 in around 50 to 150,000 people in the general population

Cat Eye Syndrome is generally not inherited. The disorder occurs as a arbitrary event during the formation of egg or sperm. In some cases however, parents with a balanced translocation can have an increased chance of having a child with a chromosomal abnormality. Despite this, inheritance of CES is rare and most cases are chromosomal abnormalities. Cat eye syndrome is a genetic disease that is a result of genetic variation and is random.

Cat Eye Syndrome is a chromosomal disorder found on chromosome 22. Chromosome 22 is home to a short arm and a long arm which are present only twice in a normal chromosome 22. However, sometimes, the short arm and parts of the long arm are present in the chromosome three or four times, this results in cat eye syndrome. CES is a partial trisomy (extra copy) on chromosome 22.

Due to the non-inherited nature of cat eye syndrome, there are no populations with predispositions to the disorder. There is still a very small genetic predisposition to CES. As mentioned before, it is more likely, yet still rare, for cat eye syndrome to be passed down if a parent has a balanced translocation which would give their child an increased chance at a chromosomal abnormality. Also if there are small bits of chromosome 22 located in some of the parent's cells their children may have a predisposition to cat eye syndrome. But this is still unlikely, which leaves the disorders to be mostly random and sporadic. Due to this randomness, there are no populations with predispositions to cat eye syndrome. Cat eye syndrome also affects both males and females and individuals of all races and ethnic background.

Cay eye syndrome can not be prevented. This is because it is a genetic abnormality and not an infection, there is no vaccination or means of precaution to avoid the disorder. Genetic testing during pregnancy may lead to understanding a possible risk with the proposed genetics of the unborn child. CES is not passed down through heredity and is a genetic abnormality so it can rarely be controlled. Genetic counseling can help if there seems to be a family history of CES but due to its sporadic nature family history of CES is generally coincidence. However a combination of these precautions can help parents understand the disorder. But due to it being a genetic abnormality very little can be done to prevent or control the disease.

CES and it's symptoms are subjective to each and every individual affected by the genetic disorder. The severity and presence of the symptoms play a great role in determining the side effects of the disorder and its treatment. Most of CES' symptoms can be treated and dealt with through surgery and or occupational therapy. This leaves those affected with the aftermath of those surgery and therapy. Some side effects may include Iris Colombo, hearing loss, crossed eyes, and other unfixed symptoms that are a result of the disorder. Some CES treatment may involve medication for example for heart problems, and the side effects of the medication may occur. Other wise, through surgery and occupational therapy, most side effects of the disease such as heart defects, cleft palate, and skeletal defects can be eradicated.
These side effects of the disease and treatment generally have no change on the life expectancy of an individual. However, infants with severe symptoms may die in infancy as a result of the side effects of the disease.
