It's all about having those positive relationships with your students. They need to know you care about them. I often make time to talk to each of my students throughout the week about something outside of our normal classroom chatter. With my behavior kids, I try to talk with them every day, often catching them first thing in the morning while they're coming into the classroom (just something simple). By doing this, I have found that they naturally started coming up to me at times throughout the week to talk about something non-school related.
