Saddam would later move to Baghdad when he was teenager and began to participate in multiple coup attempts which eventually resulted in Saddam's cousin becoming the director of Iraq in July 1968. Around 11 years later Saddam would take the place of his cousin as the director of Iraq.

Saddam's secret police would regularly ignore the rights of Iraq's people in order to keep Saddam in power. Saddam also led a lavish lifestyle owning 20 palaces all across Iraq while his people lived in poverty. Later in 1980 Saddam would engage in a war with Iran which ended up costing millions of lives for both countries with Saddam using poisonous gases against Iran's military. Saddam would also in 1988, invade Kuwait which was part of Iraq's own population being located in the northern part of Iraq.

On march 2003 the U.S. decided to invade Iraq again with the intent of removing Saddam from power. Saddam went into hiding during the U.S. invasion and his government quickly fell. The U.S. declared that Saddam Hussein was the most wanted member of his regime and so put an intense search for Saddam and his close advisors into action. On July 22nd Saddam's sons named Qusay and Uday were found and killed with Saddam himself being found a couple months later on December 13th.

I chose to do my project on the capture of Saddam Hussein because I was interested in how the book described his capture. I also was interested in how he was captured because political figures especially when they are being actively pursued take extreme caution in concealing their presence.

Saddam was hiding in a small 6 to 8 foot deep hole, which was located close to his hometown Tikrit. When Saddam was found he was unkempt with a large beard and matted hair. Saddam seemed to have accepted his arrest and didn't resist too much however, he still seemed to not be apologetic for any of his actions during his rule over Iraq and was defiant in his trial taking place in 2006.
