Delegates came to a disagreement on how many representatives there will be in each state. The larger states came up with the Virginia plan. They wanted the number of representatives to be based on the population. That way they have more representation compared to the smaller states. However, the smaller states did not agree with the larger states and made the New Jersey Plan. The smaller states came up with the New Jersey PLan because they wanted all states to have equal representation, but the larger states didn't want this.

To solve the problem about representation they made The Great Compromise. Congress decided that there wold be 2 Senates per state, so today there are a total of 100 senates. That made the smaller states happy because every state has an equal amount of senates. To make the larger states happy they came up with the House of Representatives. Each state has a different amount of representatives based on population. The Great Compromise made both the larger and smaller states happy.

The south wanted to count slaves as people in their population to get more representation. However, the north did not want to count slaves and instead they waned to tax slave owners whenever they bought a slave due to treating them like property. They came to a compromise and came up with the 3/5 Compromise. The plan is that southern states count 3/5 of their slaves and pay taxes when they buy slaves.5 slaves equal 3 slaves in the states population.

The northern states wanted the federal government to control trade so the national government would run more smoothly. The southern states didn't want them to control trade because they were afraid trade would threaten the sale of slaves. To end the disagreement the North agreed to wait 20 years to vote to ban slavery and slave trading. So at the time slave trading was legal.
