Having multiple perspectives is important because it can help understand the point of view of other ideas and lead to seeing different sides of a story. It helps understand every detail, character and setting that can give us more context about the story. It helps us visualize how every character, word, and sentence symbolizes through a new lens. It helps us find similarities and compare how the story escalates though other perspectives. Therefore, viewing a story with different perspectives help uncover the story through a better understanding.

Every day, people have opinions on many different subjects, like art, writing, and literary information. That brings us to the question: "Why is it important to engage in multiple perspectives? What can we learn from them? I believe it is important to engage in multiple perspectives of events because you can understand more points of views and how other people might see what you disagree with or agree with as a viable solution. Learning other perspectives may broaden your knowledge and maybe expand more on your thesis/ideas for your opinion, instead of missing others' perspectives and not being able to take into account what other people are saying. In other words, engaging in other peoples' perspectives may help you learn what may help you do more research on a literary piece of information, or just any piece of information in general. In order to be a sufficient writer, you need to understand others' perspectives to allow more information to be used in your writing. I believe that you need to use perspectives for your writing because you can make it better through the power of multiple people instead of just yourself.

Nathan Yen

It is important to engage in multiple perspectives of events, because sometimes bias may be present. Unreliable narrators who shift more towards one side than the other can provide biased information instead of the purely factual type. Also, different perspectives helps us piece together the event as a whole - despite one person's bias. We can learn how to separate opinion from fact and how to assess information from different sources appropriately.

Advaita Nittala

I think that it is important to engage in multiple perspectives since in real life, you can't go in other people's minds and see their thoughts or feelings, but in books, we can go in multiple perspectives. We can learn from them, what goes in their heads and what they feel. Knowing how other people are in their perspectives is important to the plot since if the plot is only based on one person's actions, feelings, thoughts, the plot in the story gets really boring. Knowing other people's perspectives in books helps in the plot. It is also how they mostly get to the climax, where they know about other people's feelings and there's conflict between two or more people based on their thoughts/feelings/actions. For example, it can be that one person is having a conflict with another character for saying that they don't like this idea. This is the climax of the whole story and it makes it more fun and exciting to read as they dispute. Because of the conflict, it slowly resolves and it ends the story.

If they didn't have the conflict, the story would go on and on and on without stopping, which makes the story very boring for the readers. Knowing other people's perspectives helps with the characters understanding each other. We can learn from it and put it into real life so you can help other people when they might have a mental/emotional/physical conflict. Another reason you can be a better person.

Many people think that multiple perspectives just help other people with knowing what other people think. But, it actually keeps the plot going and sometimes, some books have it like that they have conflicts and the reader can choose which path they want to choose.

-Isabella Kim

It is important to understand multiple perspectives of events because it helps the reader understand more about the characters. If the character has a quarrel with another character or if the character is biased towards something, the reader will only understand THAT character's perspective. If there’s only one character who tells the story, they might leave some details out. It’s better to listen to both sides of the characters' stories to see what THEY think of it, and then the reader can form an opinion when they hear both sides.

Violet Abutal

I think it is important to engage in multiple perspectives of events because you can get a lot of knowledge from those perspectives. You can understand what someone is going through, and even make opinions about it. It's always better to take multiple perspectives into account, because not only will you learn more about something, it will also broaden your OWN perspective. You'll have an unbiased opinion about the story or whatever you're reading. For example, if you know only one character, you are automatically going to stand for that one character, and you won't be thinking about other perspectives. It's almost like a hero vs. villian situation, where one always thinks the hero is correct in any situation even if the villian has a horrible backstory. One really good example of this is the book "Refugee," where it's the story of a kid losing his father on September 11, 2001, and a girl living in a war-inflicted life in Pakistan (2019). You don't know that the kid grows up and fights against the Taliban as a soldier from the second perspective until the ending, but you can see how similar their stories of losing loved ones and living a terror-filled day/lives are. We understand what ALL characters feel, and we think about what they should or shouldn't do. We form opinions about one character, whether good or bad, and by seeing what others feel, we can understand why the character thinks certain things about others or understand why the character doesn't like those people. It also helps in developing the plot, where if we have two separate stories, we can compare and contrast each perspective. We can see an interesting plot brewing sometimes, and we can even learn more from not only one person's, but EVERYBODY'S mistakes. It's always better to learn what two people are thinking than one person, because you can see why people act certain ways. In fact, when we conduct research, we often cross-check some facts by using different sources. We write a full essay only when we have researched using enough sources. In conclusion, it's better to engage in multiple perspectives because we can learn a lot about what people are thinking and why are they behaving certain ways.

We can learn from the different perspectives by showing what kind of character they are such as a antagonist or a protagonist.

It is important to be involved in multiple perspectives of an event to understand how different people experienced the same event. We learn about the different situations and points of view when engaging in various perspectives. A single person doesn't convey a whole picture, whereas multiple points of view help you understand the different sides of an event.

Engaging with all perspectives of an event is important to eliminate bias. Bias is extremely easy to have, even if you do not realize you are biased. It is also important to engage with all perspectives so you do not wrongfully accuse somebody or treat them badly because you were fed information about them without their side of the story. You can gain information from different sides of a story. You can learn about how people feel about the situation, and what their emotions are.

It's important to engage in other perspectives because there's never just one side to the story. If you really want to understand and know what's actually happening, you need to look at it from everyone's eyes, or views. When you do, you can try and see what people's point of view, how the feel, and more. This is important because you can't assume "Oh, this person thinks blah blah" when you are just thinking from your point of view or a bias perspective. When you see what others perspectives are, you can correctly attempt to see what they are thinking of. We can learn that you can never really know what others perspectives are unless you change your own.

-Inara Kokanti ;)

For example, if someone is having a hard time with problems, you should be softer with them. Or if someone is more delicate with feelings, you should support them. People can't just see what someone saw or someone's point of view which could change how everyone thinks about something. We can't see what someone else is going through and we need to understand that when thinking about a problem. It also helps people to understand the characters in a different light and how they benefit the plot.

It is important to engage in different perspectives because when we see something in our lenses we don't see what they see, we block things out that we personally don't like so it doesn't allow us to really understand someone. When you engage into multiple perspectives you are seeing what the person sees which lets us get into a position where we don't let our opinions change how we feel about something. When you look through someone's lenses you're more able to understand a situation and learn more about different peoples experiences. What we gain or learn from this is more knowledge of a situation which leads us to understand and then make a more fair opinion.

That is why it is called, biased, if you only see one person's opinion.

Asha Nathan
