In the blog post I like how she explained that she needs to teach her students how to collaborate and talk to each other. She expects her students to be able to collaborate and talk on a daily basis, but I never thought about how time needs to be set aside in the beginning of the year to set the tone.
Benefits of team building activities are clear, they can set the tone for the rest of the year, they can produce a positive classroom environment and much more.
Drawbacks - it seems that the teacher needs to be extremely prepared to implement a team building activity like the one in the blog post. I’m sure after doing it with a class a few times it becomes easier. But implementing for the first time would need a lot of preparation to ensure that it runs smoothly.
T Lundgren

The importance of introducing collaborative activities really emphasizes the importance of group participation from the students. It helps demonstrate and set up the amount of effort that is expected from all students during these activities. It also demonstrates how it can be an entertaining activity when everyone puts in an effort and create a productive and positive group.

I think this blog post gave a lot of great ideas. One thing I really liked was that the teacher didn’t group her students by their abilities rather than just grouped them randomly. This allows for great collaboration. The students whom are really understanding the activity can help the students who happen to be struggling. Collaborative actives require that all students in a group work together. It can be a great learning opportunity for not only the math but also to work on team skills. I also love the idea of exit tickets. After working on a game/activity groups can fill out an exit ticket and each member of the group can be required to contribute.

I really enjoyed this blog post and I think this activity provides such a great example of team building and collaboration that is essential to every classroom. I love that this activity gives students the chance to interact with other students early on so they can become more familiar with each other and build that connection so everyone feels safe and respected. It is also a great way to show students classroom expectations for collaborative work, which will really benefit the flow of the classroom as the year goes on. However, I think this activity could be kind of daunting to students who struggle with math or numbers in general and it can make them feel badly about themselves. I think to remedy this the teacher really needs to emphasize the collaboration and teamwork aspect to help each other out if they cant find it and that it isn't a race but an activity to discover strategies and etc.
- Ariana

I feel like the 100 Numbers activity is great because it encourages everyone to stay engaged. It allows students to work together and holds each individual accountable in order for the whole group to succeed. It's fun way to work on math for the students who are not as excited about the subject. I also like that the game doesn't allow one player to advance without the other. It encourages team work.
I think a possible drawback of this activity is that once the kids figure out the pattern of the activity, they might not feel the need to pay as much attention as they did previously , which would lead to a loss in engagement.
