Coffee Shop Ethnography?

When I walked through the door of the coffee shop there were from what I observed a lot of people. Some seemed to be in a rush and really did not stop to talk to anyone nor were they aware of much of their surroundings. Meanwhile others walked through the door and looked around and were not using phones like others and stopped to check the menu while others were prepared to get the "usual" coffee, latte and etc.Once the people who were not really sitting down and just staring at their phones drink was ready they just rushed through the doors. While others went and got there drink with a snack and sat down at the table with their phones or laptops and ate while studying or having a conversation with their friends/family. Many of the people I observed were just in their own space bubble however, some people were more welcoming than others I feel the people that were more welcoming were the people that were not in much of a rush. When it comes to catering this coffee shop catered all types of people from Black or African American, White, Asian and Hispanic or Latino. When it comes to age factor I felt like there were more of the older crowd that came in through the doors while the younger crowd came thru the drive thru which has become so typical these days because younger aged people do not make time to sit down and have a coffee or a latte and just sit and enjoy the moment.

There was a time in high school when the new blackberry phone had recently came out and all my friends had it. I remember begging my parents because I wanted to fit in amongst my peers and after convincing my parents after so long I finally got that phone and I finally felt like I fitted in. Having the phone in my hand made me feel like I was on top of the world. However, once I received it I started focusing all my time on my new phone and started falling behind in my school work or I would be in class and just text during class and I knew that the phone was very distracting and not a good investment at the moment. Even though I was happy that I finally fitted in and can show off that I finally have a phone it was having a negative impact in my school time.Meanwhile, others might have known how to balance juggling schoolwork and having a phone it was not my cup of tea. So, I got rid of it and noticed a change right away even though I did not want to get rid of it I knew that it was the right choice for me at that exact moment. Once I was done with the school year and I knew that I was finally ready to have a phone and all my focus wouldn't be on my phone I got a phone and till this day I'm grateful that I stepped up and made that choice in my life because if I didn't make that choice I knew I would have fallen behind because I knew that having a phone during that time was having a negative impact in my school life.

A corporate brand that seems meaningful in the lives around me is Uber. It helps a lot in the lives of those who are new to this country. Whether they are visiting or settling down, this corporate helps us navigate from one place to another without having to know English because nowadays their are many gadgets to help translate languages and interpret to help any person get around. Uber is very convenient and cheap because now we don't have to worry if we miss the bus or any other means of transport. Also Uber is a good place to work as it is a good "side hustle" and convenient for people with free time or for people who want to make easy money.

Fight for $15

What I think about the fast-food campaign demands for $15 hour minimum wage and the right to unionize is that I believe it is a good pay rate because it would attract many people to work there and help boot up the economy and motivate job growth in that industry because as of now what I have noticed is that their are less fast food workers in the industry. Fast food workers do face many challenges because the rate of labour in this specific industry is declining.Service sector jobs are extremely hard to unionize because of the small work settings and part-time work availability. The "Fight for $15" movement draws attention because of the particular reason that the workers work without full time hours or benefits. This movement has made a huge significant impact so far by passing laws and specifying that they would raise the minimum wage to $15 over the next few years. This Fight for 15 movement is a great movement of a kind collective activity or something that sociologists call "social movements".The Fight for 15 has drawn peoples attentions and as a result this social movement has been able to draw the resources and experience for a number of labour unions that help organize fast food workers and draw attention to issues that low-wage workers are facing.
