The first step is identification of the “symptoms”. It is important not to brush off mental health distress and suicidal ideation as being a symptom of weakness or a matter of choice.

Identifying these symptoms as being genuine expressions of problems is a “key step” to helping someone in distress. These symptoms, if unaddressed, can lead to serious consequences, such as suicide, I feel like one should be able to express their problems and seek help to resolve it.

Some of these conditions are bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), borderline personality disorder (BPD) and schizophrenia. 

One of the consequences of inequality within societies, is slower economic growth. In unequal societies, with wide disparities in areas such as health care and education, people are more likely to remain trapped in poverty, across several generations.

Between countries, the difference in average incomes is reducing, with China and other Asian nations driving growth in the global economy. Nevertheless, there are still stark differences between the richest and poorest countries and regions: the average income in North America, for example, is 16 times higher than that of people in Sub-Saharan Africa.

As extreme weather events such as cyclones and heatwaves increase in frequency and ferocity, they threaten children’s lives and destroy infrastructure critical to their well-being. Floods compromise water and sanitation facilities, leading to diseases such as cholera, to which children are particularly vulnerable.
Droughts and changing global rainfall patterns are leading to crop failures and rising food prices, which for the poor mean food insecurity and nutritional deprivations that can have lifelong impacts. These also have the potential to destroy livelihoods, drive migration and conflict, and cripple opportunities for children and young people. 

Children are the most vulnerable to diseases that will become more widespread as a result of climate change, such as malaria and dengue fever. Close to 90 per cent of the burden of disease attributable to climate change is borne by children under the age of 5.

Having already faced the hardship of fleeing their homes, refugees subsequently face the threat of attacks and violence by armed groups and in camps. Women are at especially high risk for sexual harassment, violence and human trafficking. Other challenges relate to the places where refugee camps are hosted and risks are exacerbated when refugees are hosted in developing countries that do not have the resources to provide the necessary aid to large numbers of refugees. Another challenge faced by refugees is reaching the destination country. Sometimes geography presents a major challenge, where they are required to cross large seas in boats that are often overcrowded and in poor condition. 

This social cause is worth discussing about because not many people are aware about the many refugees in the world and often generalise them to be living in acceptable living conditions where their basic needs are taken care of. We also do not know much about the problems they face everyday. Thus, we should spread awareness on this issue to create changes in small steps.

Inadequate sanitation is also a problem for 2.4 billion people—they are exposed to diseases, such as cholera and typhoid fever, and other water-borne illnesses. Two million people, mostly children, die each year from diarrheal diseases alone.

due to the overpopulation rate, water consumption within humans have increased, while some rivers, lakes are drying up or being too polluted to use. this has caused more than half the world’s wetlands to disappear. while climate change has its fluctuating patterns of weather and water around the world, causing shortages and droughts in some areas and floods in others.

with the current consumption rate,  by 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages. And ecosystems around the world will suffer further.
