My favourite was de montfort university because it had more of a range of fashion courses ranging from business to buying to marketing etc and caters for every field in this industry unlike the other 2. I put uni of west london last because there were only 1 course avaliable and there wasn't much.

she had shown us her portfolio for uni and explained everything we needed to know/do in preps for uni.

here were a few of her tips:

☆ the fashion industry is very harsh and is tough to get into, uni isn't for everyone and can really test you're ability and you as a person.

☆ university lecturers would be aware you've been working on an idea for 3 months but still tell you to start all over again proving that it's very specific.

☆ recommends taking a gap year to focus on yourself before going to uni etc, getting your license and a job.

☆ when making your portfolio, don't include boring backgrounds as they judge harshly on presentation and will mark you down one grade off just because of that.

☆ procreate on ipad is perfect for solid drawing designs.

☆ she ensures to use half a maniquin when making her toile because it lessens the fabric use therefore being sustainable which is what universities like.

☆ don't spend all your time in the studio, remember you have a life so go out and explore the campus etc.

☆ make friends with the photography students etc, talk to people around the campus so you know you have someone to shoot your garments etc.

☆ always ask for help, don't sit there and struggle. the lecturers are there to guide you, you're not alone.

I then folded it in half and placed the stick at one end. Lilly assisted me when wrapping the calico around the stick to ensure it was as tight as possible.

afterwards I then wrapped string around the calico and put it under the tap so it could be a bit damp and then placed it in the steamer.

after we let it dry for a day or two and I unravelled the material from the stick and it created a pretty pattern of yellows and greens.

♡︎ Firstly, I grabbed my card that had my design from the table.

♡︎ I cut a piece of silk to size and used an iron to smooth out the creases in it. I had to be careful with the iron to ensure I didn't burn myself.

♡︎ I then placed it on the heat press following my design and then a safety sheet and pulled the heat press down.

♡︎ I waited a minute for the numbers to go down to 0 and it was beeping so I pulled it back up and took all the pieces out and saw my result.

♡︎ I'm very pleased with the way it came out because the colour was very vivid and visible, it came out perfectly.

I have made various pieces of clothing including a wedding dress, shirt, skirt and kimono. All of these garments have been showcased at multiple fashion shows representing Oaklands College – one of these shows was in partnership with Cancer Research and we raised money for the charity held in St Albans Cathedral.

I did in fact assist the first years when I was doing my level 2 art and design course by volunteering to model. This was my first taste of essentially catwalk modelling and I was very nervous. I was completely out my comfort zone but once the lights were out, I was proud of myself. The first show where I made my own garments was my first year of the fashion course and it was very exciting for me to be able to show everyone what I had been working on for months. I felt a sense of reward and contentment watching all my designs come into life and being modelled by people. I was also given the opportunity to be a dresser, this includes assisting the models to get into garments, altering them to fit and picking up garments left and hanging them up on the racks. This role has helped me gain experience in a busy environment and has given me a taste as to what a proper fashion show would look like. In the end of year fashion show, I chose to be a model as I wanted to wear my own garments as they were tailored to fit me. I also had done my own makeup and hair for this show because I knew what suited my face and I always feel more confident when I have done it myself as it’s the best version of me. In this fashion show I had modelled my kimono, my skirt and a year 2s dress, that was part of her collection. I felt honoured to be picked to model her dress as it felt like it was assigned to me.

In the future, I want to do a fashion apprenticeship in either designing or modelling because I really enjoy the designing aspect of fashion because it gives me the freedom to create whatever I want without being judged or dismissed. I designed my wedding dress and it was one out of three to get picked out of the whole class, I felt a sense of achievement and gratitude that my design was recognised. I then made it with the help of my friend and it had landed in all 3 fashion shows representing Oaklands College. The modelling side of things has been heavily inspired by Gisele Bundchen because of how powerful her walk is and the confidence she radiates. I was very shy at first but now I know what poses to do without feeling silly that will suit my face and body.

I used an app called Canva to create my portfolio it's very helpful as it gives you all the tools you need including graphics and texts. It also gives you structure and assists you with how to layout your work. My Padlet showcased a lot of research including university talks and research. I added pictures and information about various things. I think it was detailed, laid out well and clearly, and had a theme. What I would improve on is maybe writing a bit more about certain things and go more in depth.

I am currently volunteering at Beam theatre in Hertford for work. It is a brilliant way to get involved with the public and feel the buzzing atmosphere of theatre life. This has helped me with my project and portfolio because it has given me work experience that I can take on board with me in the future in a field that I enjoy.

My creative intention with my portfolio was to create a project with a theme all the way through, I believe this makes it appear neater and flows more easily throughout the project. As one of my garments was floral, I have included little touches such as drawings of flowers to highlight that factor. My purpose of making my portfolio was to attract employers to consider work with me in an apprenticeship form. I enjoy designing clothes despite not being great at drawing and letting my imagination run wild. It's a way for me to portray my creative side without having to write anything which is what I like.

My portfolio reflects me creatively because I've included my creative process by adding my sketches, as these drawings are personal to me. The colour scheme I have used in my portfolio reflects me as a person, two of my garments were floral themed as flowers are sentimental to me because they remind me of my childhood. I also included collages of my pictures as making collages are my specialty and I really enjoy making them.

I used my Padlet as a day to day diary where I update it constantly on what I’m doing.
